Cardiacs ain’t for everybody, but they are for me, as well as Steven Wilson, Fish, Mike Patton, Blur, Radiohead, Tool, and others who have heard them and are big fans. I listen to them every day. Though it was made from the early 80’s thru 1998, this belongs to no decade; no less weird in 1984 than in 2023, and contemporary sounding. Their late band leader Tim Smith had a musical vision that he adhered to the entire time with no compromises; they pretty much self-released their music.
I first heard them on Steven Wilson’s curated post-punk collection, ‘Intrigue’, released earlier this year, and their song was the only one that I didn’t already know that totally blew me away.
They inspire strong reactions; Fish asked them to open a 1984 Marillion tour and they had to leave it early due to audience hostility. On the other hand, a Detroit acapella outfit called 180 G, called off all their gigs and recording sessions for 4 years while they created an all acapella version of Cardiacs’ double-album, ‘Sing To God’, which is on YouTube.
Here are some lyric vids (they have them for all their songs), as you can’t really hear the words and they are pretty cool use of words and somewhat impressionistic imagery, so I’d suggest linking to the YouTube vids and listen and read.

A couple from the 80’s as a 6-piece….

A couple from the 90’s as a 4-piece

… and as a bonus, here is one where Tim took instructions for Scrabble as lyrics and put it to music…

On the night of Thursday, September 20, 1973, during Croce's Life and Times tour and the day before his ABC single "I Got a Name" was released, Croce (@ 30y.o.) and five others were killed when their chartered Beechcraft E18S crashed into a tree during takeoff from the Natchitoches Regional Airport in Natchitoches, Louisiana. 1943-1973 Rest In Peace, Jim!

...You don't mess around with Slim, Jim :sunglasses:

Mr. Jarrett really gets into his playing ... including moaning, humming and talking.

New to me, the piano trio music of Keith Jarrett. These albums were recorded
in 2009 (Live in Lucerne) and 1998 (Live in Newark). Qobuz has a ton of his solo
piano albums, including many of classical music, but I'm starting with his piano
trio because the bass/drums add a lot, IMO. HD800 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~> :)

Welcome to Keith Jarrett! I was sad to see in a documentary recently that he had a stroke in 2018 that paralysed his left side. A tremendous loss. I suggest you give his 1976 recording The Köln Concert a listen to hear him at (IMHO) his peak! He’s had a long career…
