@DLeeWebb I haven't heard the John Jorgenson album yet, but I have two Hellecasters CDs that he plays on. Great playing on both albums.

I bought this 8 LP box set during a 15% off Labor Day sale and I received it a few days ago. I haven't listened to all 8 LPs yet but the few that I have listened to sound great. Super liner notes and pictures! I bought a bunch of records from Music Direct, Elusive Disc, Acoustic Sounds and Amazon. I think I spent over $700 last weekend on records! :scream: Lots of good stuff by Muddy Waters, 3 box sets of Coltrane ('58, Atlantic Years in Mono and '63), T-Bone Walker, T. Rex, Johnny Cash, Gregory Porter, Jimmy Rogers, Norah Jones and a few others.

I saw Kelly Joe Phelps at Ram's Head On Stage in Annapolis, Maryland. He opened for either Hot Tuna or Jorma Kaukonen. He was very good. I bought all of his CD's at the venue. He autographed them and we had quite a nice conversation. I saw him the next day riding a bicycle around Annapolis. I'll have to get this one out, haven't listened to it in quite awhile, thanks! (John Jorgenson is the best Gypsy Jazz guitarist around, a modern day Django Reinhardt for sure. I don't know if there has been some kind of new edition, but "Franco-American Swing" was hard to find when I was looking for it...)

Franco-American Swing isn't available on either Qobuz or Spotify. I'll have to look elsewhere...

The new 3-CD box set

I'm curious as to the remastering and the quality of this new boxed set. I love this album. I became aware at some point that the Virgin release was considered significantly better than the one I purchased much later (which is terrible...). Any insight into sound quality would be appreciated...

It sounds good. To me it sounds exactly like the 2005 remaster. I can say nothing about a Virgin release.

I am unable to stream 'Hi Res' reliably on Qobuz, so unfortunately I won't be able to give you my verdict; Qobuz only has the new re-mixed version of Goats Head Soup in 'Hi Res' format. Daft!
I'll be able to listen to it, but only by downsampling to 16/44.1 so that my internet speed can cope...and I am sure that is not the optimum way to play a Hi Res file.
Some of the Stones' CD releases sounded terrible!
I thought 'Exile on Main St' was almost unlistenable on CD until it was remastered about 10 years ago.
I bought the Polydor 2009 remastered version of Goats Head Soup on CD a few years ago. It sounds OK but I certainly have better sounding recordings...
Some people say the earlier Virgin remaster was far better.

Listened via Qobuz Hi Res a few days back. Sounded good but it had some of the flattest live Stones I've heard. Gimme Shelter was lame to my ears and I think I've heard it live at least 10 times over the years. Last time in Denver with my 45 and 42 year old kids who'd never seen them before.
