Some songs on Davies' latest album Americana, his first one in ten years, are pretty good.
Lately I've been drawn to Davies' solo recordings which aren't masterpieces when compared to his work as lead singer, primary songwriter of The Kinks. Maybe it's my age that draws me to his albums, a personal quest for the elusive hook/ sound that captivated my youthful exuberance or maybe ... we're just moving along me the older listener, he, the older muse, together, trudging onwards on "The Great Highway" (a song title from this album) one day at a time.
