So... I just listened to DJ Shadow's Diminishing Returns set and found this song which is apparently by someone that went by the name of Smiles.  I can't find any info on the artist or the song... neither can anyone else:

"and I'm so tired / and I'm all alone / and I don't know who I am / and I don't know where I'm going /  I'm just a star on a democratic flag / and I never had a friend"
 
The vocal sample at the end isn't original (it was cut from the live set) because no one else can find an original vinyl copy of it..,
