Yesterday I was stuck in meetings all day, but luckily the great weather here in Chicago held for today, so I was able to go out to the record store and grab a copy of the new Animal Collective album, Painting With. It seems much more focused and cohesive so far than Centipede Hz, but lacks the innovative genius of Merriweather Post Pavilion. And though it doesn't really need to be said, the group no longer sounds as organic as they used to on earlier releases like Here Comes The Indian and Feels. The featured work from Colin Stetson and John Cale on specific tracks are both welcome additions, and overall, it's a pretty solid album.
