I like this box from the LSO. It was cheap so it is great value for the money. The recording is spacious and there is great dynamics and some good slam in the percussion. It is not one of the very intimate recordings though like some of the DG recordings. Most of the symphonies are played in a very engaging way. I like this conductor. But also I have had better wow-experiences with no 2 and 5 with Bernstein+Wiener Philharminics. So as a box set there are truly great moments in the LSO box. No. 3 is one of the good ones in this box set. Highly recommended when found on Amazon for almost nothing.
I seem to never have enough Mahler. I've all of MTT' 1-9, Das Liede Von Erde. I quite like them. I've also Bernstein and Muti for #1, Bernstein #2, Abbado for #7. Boulez for 9. And Colin Davis for Das Lied Von Erde.
I don't like MTT's choice of two men and prefer the play of the Tenor and Soprano in Davis' Das Lied Von Erde.
I've Solti for everything but Das Lied.
I think I prefer 8 by Solti over MTT.
I've heard 4 and 5 live by MTT and 5 live by Solti and the CSO
