Well I've got freakin' pneumonia (and I've never smoked! and I'm only in my mid 40's!), so in between sleep I'll be stuck in this weekend listening to a lot of music.

Good luck with the lungs; I know from experience how bad infections can be....

What's that noise!

That's how you realize you're getting old. I haven't heard that record in over 35 years. Thanks for bringing back good memories.

Wow, that is quite a long time. How didn't you revisit this gem in that period of time? It's nothing.

Art Blakey - Moanin'.png
Lee Morgan on the trumpet.

Art Blakey - With Thelonious Monk.png
This is a song by Thelonious Monk, but it's Art Blakey's band, so more solos
by the trumpet and sax. An interesting twist on Monk's famous song.

Art Blakey - A Night in Tunisia.png
This song composed by Dizzy Gillespie. Wayne Shorter on tenor sax.

This song composed by the pianist Bobby Timmons.

From 1958 - 1961. Mr. Blakey was a band leader for about 35 years starting
in the mid 1950s. His bands were a collective and a breeding ground for new
young jazz talent ... experience as a Jazz Messenger meant you'd been vetted.
The list of musicians is extensive and includes Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter,
Lee Morgan, Chuck Mangione, Keith Jarrett, Terence Blanchard and Wynton
Marsalis, and many others. So net - a lot to explore about him and his music.

ps. I hope you get to feelin' better soon, @PoSR77.

While everyone is debating whether the new Metallica is better than the more recent Megadeth, I went back to the classics. I miss these guys.

The Night Safari . Patrick Wolf.png

The Night Safari . Patrick Wolf

Patrick Wolf lives outside the conventions that have become so narrow. His outfit and posture on the cover, that’s him and not an image born out of the will to sell albums. His latest record takes a step towards the listener and then doesn’t. His voice is intense and the electronic melodies catchy in parts. Then again, he throws up complex, surprising structures. Like other sensitive musicians, he has been through difficult years and they show here. He doesn’t lament, but enchants with defiance and a deeply felt “Now more than ever!” undertone.

The Guardian called him “The cult 00s art-pop star”.
