After chasing through rabbit holes a week or so ago, I found these guys and went to BandCamp:
I enjoy their strong James Brownesque grooves. One downside is they sometimes lock on to a riff and make the entire song that riff. Also one of the traits I don't like in some of JB's music. When IK's horns get going, though, watch out. Big power, big fun. The recordings are decent, at least they don't detract from the fun. It looks like the self-release their stuff. They have a couple of newer CDs available on their website. Perhaps I'll have to jump on those before they are sold out.
I bought the entire catalog available on BandCamp. Their eponymous debut is also fun. The song "Tujunga" is the stand-out for me. They have an EP of remixes which isn't as fun- too monotonous.
@DLeeWebb: agree with you about Lou Reed's New York. Highpoints for me are "Last Great American Whale" and "Beginning of a Great Adventure". Taken as a whole album perhaps Reed's strongest in my opinion.
