Johnny Cash

The Great Lost Performance

Universal Music on July 24 '07 released "The Great Lost Performance," a Johnny Cash performance from 1990 found in the vaults. The set features Cash duets with wife June Carter and singer Lucy Clark.

The 18-song 58 minute banter-filled live album was recorded July 27, 1990 at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, N.J. While Cash classics like "I Walk the Line" and "Folsom Prison Blues" are present and accounted for, the disc also features Johnny and Carter dueting on "Jackson" and "The Wreck of Old '97" and tracks "What is Man" and "Forty Shades of Green" with New Jersey's own Lucy Clark.

/ Although the prolific song writter has several others of his "Live" performances which are more dynamic,(some critics would say his best recordings were while he indulged his substance demons), but what is particularly obvious is that this recording is biased/miked towards sounding studio like for it's clarity of the sound quality. Second most noteworthy with this recording of course are the lead-in banter and tidbits of Johnnys, his life and the inspirations for the songs he preforms in excellent voice and mood. Very nicely done, highly recommended
