I just rediscovered Band of Gypsies after many years not hearing that album. I can almost say for sure that the guitar work in Machine Gun must be some of the finest solo/rythmic work ever done (at least in that style).

Band Of Gypsys is by far my favorite Hendrix album. I first heard it when I was about 11, on vinyl, with headphones. I have to agree with your sentiment.

Same thing for me, when I was 13 my grade 8 teacher bought me Band of Gypsys on vinyl as a present because I was always raving about the musicians I listened to so he wanted me to hear Hendrix. Every-time I listen to Machine Gun, I am beyond blown away. Considering the technology at the time, and the past influences Hendrix had to draw from he may have been the best innovator on the guitar of all time. Subjective I know, but arguable at the least.
