I remember when I first heard the Allman brothers (Live at Fillmore East) I was around 17 & at a teenage party. The guy who brought the album told me who they were & I remember being blown away by their overall sound especially the lead signer's voice & style. That was 45 years ago. The year before this party the group's talented lead guitarist Duane Allman only 24 died tragically in a motorcycle accident. On May 27 of this year Gregg Allman, Duane's younger brother, the one with the unique signing style & voice passed away after battling liver cancer for 4+ years. As I'm writing these thoughts down I can't help but reflect how ephemeral life is & just how much certain musical genres and musicians can stir up, within us, emotions & memories which have impacted different parts and times of our lives over the years. This is one of Gregg Allman's best albums.
