This is in part for fun and in part to save my wallet some suffering, what 3 sub-$500 cans would you choose if it were the last 3 pairs you could ever buy and you wanted to cover all possible genres of music?

I already have two of them, the Ultrasone Pro 900s for electronic and/or bassy music, and the Sennheiser HD-600 for mellow music.  For aggressive music I'd pick the Grado SR-325i/is (already have the SR-80i and plan to upgrade to the 325).  I listen to just about every conceivable genre out there, and maybe I have a blind spot, but I can't think of anything those three couldn't cover satisfactorily.

Heya,

Sennheiser HD600 - Covers everything.

Hifiman HE-300 - Covers everything.

Denon D5000 - Covers everything.

Fischer Audio FA-002W - Covers everything.

You could probably get by on any one of those for every genre and do fine and be happy with it so long as you stay off Head-Fi afterwards.

Very best,

I haven't tried much so i would say the following.

Sennheiser hd 25 1 ii $200 does nothing wrong

Alessandro ms1 $99 Again does very little wrong

Shure srh840 $140 to much midbass but good nonetheless.

That's of what i tried. I ordered a pair of srh940 and if i'm not satisfied i might just stay satisfied with my hd 25 1 ii. I still am amazed at how good they are for my genres.
