Westone W60 Impressions Thread

Might be a silly question, how can tell the difference between the W30/40/50/60 by just looking at the shells without the covers - are there easy visual differences or does it say the model number anywhere ?

if you take out the shell, there is the model revealing W40/50/60

another difference is between the W10-40 ther shell looks cheap compare to W50/W60

4.  The seam that looks like a crack.  Westone says it is intentional but it does look like a body panel gap that is not even on a car.  There is no reason for this gap to be there.

I noticed that not all Westone W-series have an open "seam" on the body.  My W40 does not have an open seam.  I fell in love with the sound and to say the least, I just ordered a W60 from BHPhoto.

Has anyone had problems with their Westone W60 so far?

The only problems you hear are:

1.  Fading clips.  You know the gold toned c clip that adorns the shell.  The pain and W imprinted on it can wear off.
2.  The clips are plastic and can break if you over tighten them.

Other than that, I had no issues.

My W60 came in today. First impression compared to the W40, the W60 has wider bandwith. It does not have the W40 lower mid-base accentuation. I would say the W60 is neutral sounding. It has a smooth non-fatiguing sound with refinement in midrange details, bass texture, and pristine highs. It reminds me of a good floor standing speakers that costs $7k and upwards. The W60 is revealing that you can tell if music is well recorded or not. Poorly recorded/compressed music will obviously sound flat. Garbage in, garbage out. When played with a good well engineered recording, the sound is very addictive. The W60 is fun tunes for people on the GO!

My W60 has that "open seam" on the body. Not too concerned about C-clips. I just hoped they have more color choices that I like.

I added a picture or two. The W60 is surely designed for serious listeners.

Twister...fantastic write-up.  You have a great ability to articulate things to the average person out there.  I agree 100% with everything.  It seems we hear things the same.

Thanks Steve!  Not sure if you are going to enjoy my next review as much, since I'm planning to take a look at your not-so-favorite W50

Just curious to take a listen and see how much of an audiophile-BASShead that headphone turns out to be

Alex,  You NOT gonna like W50!   Knock your self out.  Makes Pro50 bass sound like Ety bass....  lmao.......  or more realistically....a 16" sub in the trunk versus a more appropriate 8" one.

I was surprised to read you say Pro50 slightly brighter sounding than W60.  That is good to know as  I had them 7-8 months apart so no way I could remember because it seemed close.

But just to elaborate on something else you mentioned.  Many relate "warm or smooth"  (some adjectives you used in talking about Pro50)  with rolled off highs.  But Westone has an uncanny way of creating a very non-fatiguing smooth and warm presentation YET all the detail in mid and upper registers is still very nicely represented and extended.  You can do A-B testing with various music samples and different earphones to prove this out.  I am mainly talking about W60 and Pro50 here because I DO still think Pro30 does have rolled off highs.

I tried the W50 prior to getting the W60 and I am not too impressed with the sound of the W50.  I only compared the sound to W40 which I owned.  I would say listen to audition the W50 and give us your opinion.
