Westone UM PRO Series Thread

I actually thought the UM Pro 30 sound much better than the Pro 50, I've loved that sound signature ever since I got my UM3x years ago. So wanted to get the Pro 50 until I demoed them, the bass was too overpowering but lack sub bass. The overall sound has no clarity nor details too me.

It did not sound overly bassy to me. It wasn't so much the balance but the overall tone it presents. Not particularly natural sounding.

Please help, W50 or UM 50 Pro?
I am using iBasso DX50, most of my music are WAV format.
I am currently using um3x and want to upgrade it to W50 or UM 50 Pro.
1. Do I need to get an AMP for W50 or UM50pro?
2. What are the difference between them?
Thanks for helping^^!

I tried the UM50 with DX50 direct feed from HO. IMO, the sound churning out wasn't impressive. To me it was filled with over bloated bass, lacking in clarity and instrument separation opposed to um3x. Vocals wise will be on par with W4R or slightly better. Soundstage seem to be slightly better than 4R as well.
Probably the unit I was listening to wasn't burnt in or I should have paired it with an amp.

What's worse than getting an earphone that doesn't sound right, is spending even more money on an amp/DAC/cable in hope of getting it to sound right.

The first time I demoed the Pro 50 I thought the same too, but when I demoed them a second time at a shop I know well, I was told they have been burnt in for over 200 hours and they sounded just the same, muddy bass with no clarity.

Probably the unit I was listening to wasn't burnt in or I should have paired it with an amp.

The question is : why did Westone release the Pro 50? My old UM2 which I got back in 2008 still sound better than them. Have the CEO or design team not heard how they sounded before they released it? It's ruining their reputation, for me at least, I'd think twice before buying any Westone products again.
Lol. Then kudos to the UM50! :)

IMO, the lastest UM range was a letdown, at least to me too. Hopefully the new W50 and W60 will pull it back. I'll still stand by their UM3X and W4R. Both are really good and a complement to each other.

I just went to the shop and demoed a lot of the new UM and W series.

I may be biased but I really don't like the SQ of the UM Pro 50, they have similar sound signature to UM Pro 30 but with bloated low mid, in the 250-500 Hz region, which cause the muddiness, whereas the W50 have more sub bass/bass but not such bloated low mid which I liked more. I still prefer the UM Pro 30 sound signature so I got one, and also the W60, which I really liked, a bit like the Pro 50 but with a lot more details and clarity, not unlike the AKR03.

Sorry I didn't try them because I have Westone 4 and 4r already.
