Well here's i my attempt. I started with an Altoid's Case (WinterGreen) purchased from Wal-Mart for $1.00.

I started with the holes, I used a drill bit, then that funny cone-ish shaped drill bit to widen and smooth the edges of the hole in the tin. I used self adhesive weather stripping, and "Creative Hands Flexi-Foam" for the bottom. I used a plastic playing card for inside of the lid, an walla!

To remove the paint on the tin, I would suggest using a buffing wheel with a white bar of buffing compound (why white? its meant to remove rust and paint on steel and other ferrous [iron-based] materials, but will leave the steel very shiny, and refined looking. However, it will leave a grain on it.

I will also suggest doing it in a multi-stage format. Use a sharp, flat edge (perhaps, a good chisel) to scrape the paint off, and then use acetone to try and clean off any remaining paint. Then use the buffing wheel to polish the steel, and make it look even nicer.

Hi, I'm new here and this is my protactive case.


I used a Fisherman's Friends Tin.

and for the interior, I used corderoy for the top and the bottom, and for the sizes I used foam.

I was wondering if anyone could give me the depth of the tin. I'm trying to see if I could fit a sansa m200 series in an altoids tin. Call me crazy.

No pic of the access hole but it is a perfect profesional hole.

Velvet on top and bottom.
Cushy cusion all the way around.
Very profesional job.
Anyone want to buy it?
Could even custom paint it with solid color and clear coat!

Yeah, your right.
I realy actually prefer just the simple clean round access hole to plug in phones.
If my DAP is in the can thats all i need cause it will be playing a big playlist or all tracks and i don't need to touch it.
Otherwise while charging or making playlist or moving files it would not be in a case.

yeah, my first tin (which I made using scissors and plyers, looked ugly) started with just a round hole for the 'phones, but then I got so fed up with taking it out to turn it on/off and charge it that I made the hole give access to all the stuff on the top.

I'll be beginning my mod today, i plan to use a red penguins mint tin and red foam with a long slit for USB and power button access along with the head phones

im debating weather to cut a window on the lid and glue in a peice of plastic from a cd case.

I should haev access to my uncles dremel today for the cutting and my girlfriend has spare foam.

i applied the foam, here is how i applied the screen cover on the lid part. i cut it, pulled off the sticky and layed it, sticky side up on the face. then i closed it!

I added some protector stuff but i scrapped the idea
