Perhaps I'm asking a stupid question or this has already been asked - can the Walnut be modded to add a gain selector in amp mode? I was appalled to find that this little sucker is better than my Little Dot MK1+ portable amp which I bought for around $200 some 7 years back. However I have a noticeable imbalance and adjusting the volume for low impedance earbuds can be really tricky.

you bet!

you can typically make an effective gain switch circuit by having the signal pass thru a resistor....

You can replace the potentiometer by 50-100kΩ. This will extend the available volume range. for example http://mouser.com/ProductDetail/Bourns/PTR902-2015K-A104/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMtC25l1F4XBU1xwXnrUt%2fuoZmv44SKEpos=

I was kinda surprised that Rose Electronic no longer sells the Walnut and then I checked their Ali store and everything is gone... they're out of business.

It seems they point out on their AE store page that they'll continue on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/usr/shenglongsi

Thanks for the suggestion (really interesting). However I'm getting a shipping cost of 60 for a unit cost of 3!!! Does anybody know if there's any equivalent on eBay or Ali?

I will say to avoid that seller.
My Zishan DSD lasted only 10 hours, sent it back and it was very long till i got my refund.
Also his communication is minimal.

It's too bad because everyone is telling me to buy the Walnut v2 from Rose/http://www.ebay.com/usr/shenglongsi

It's about $5.00 US more than Aliexpress too :frowning2:

PS: I really hope I stop buying ear buds/items/daps soon... I'm tired of it. :frowning2: I hope I find the right fit soon.

I'm find really easy trick :xf_eek:
Resistors 1kOhm (1% precisely) should be soldered between the 2 and 3 contacts of the potentiometer. This emulates the logarithmic potentiometer. The sound adjustment became much more linear. It is easier to adjust the comfortable volume level.

Can people let me know if Rose/Shenglongsi on Ebay sells the Walnut by Registered Mail? So I have to sign for it?

Is e-packet the same as Registered Mail?

Epacket can be registered, or not registered. They are separate services

Epacket = EMS express flat rate

Registered mail = "prepaid first class mail that is recorded by the post office before being sent and at each point along its route to safeguard against loss, theft, or damage"
