The L3000 was in a sealed box. I assume it has never been taken out since it was shipped by Audio-Technica.

No, it hasn't been tested by AT. I played test CDs that have various tones and sounds. One of the CDs was tracks of RealTraps test tones. http://www.realtraps.com/test-cd.htm

I compared the sound of the L3000 with the AD2000 and didn't hear anything wrong with the L3000.

Congrats on picking up a pair as supplies are now dwindling. I have my pair and think they are one set of awesome cans. Hope they bring you many hours of listening bliss. those are awesome! if i had tons of $$$ i'd actually order that pair without hearing them. if i didn't like them i'd frame them and hang them on the wall!
