Not sure if I want to root it yet , going to use it primarily for 24 bit playback. Hoping that sony with roll out the kitkat update soon.

I wasn't asking you to root it. The app works without root too. Just wanted to see what options the recovery had.

Looks like stock may be trickling in now in the uk at least.  Thing is though price has doubled virtually.  Third party has 3 units in at £440! So of course amazon (who are now quoting the seller) has also jumped to £440.  Sod that.  £200 I was mildy curious but double that and I'll leave it for now.

hello i was wondering if it's worth waiting for this player to become avaliable at £259 [any idea how long it'll be?] or whether i should opt for the older f series at £210?
i'll be listening through decent earphones i guess, £85 bose ones from amazon which i'm asking for for christmas [though they might not be much good to audio people!] but obviously i want the best sound i can get and can't really go over £100 for christmas.

any advice would be good 'cause i don't know much about this sort of thing. Cheers! :)

Nobody can really tell by now, as the player is not out in the market. But I have the old A845 driving my Sony EX-1000 and it is really good. For the Bose the F807 will be a good companion for sure.

and lastly, i've found a 64gb version of the old f series [f807] used at £200 would that be a good buy do people reckon? i'm really not sure what to go for apologies for flooding the topic!

If you don't need a hi-rez playback, the F807 is highly recommended by me.  I prefer clarity & details with good sense of soundstage and the F807 delivers in a big way.  It is all depending on what sort of sound signature you are after..

cheers for the responses! i think i will probably go for the 807 as i'm not really concerned about hi-rez playback [i read that it would make a difference anyway without a very expensive set of headphones?] plus at 32gb i couldn't fit many albums on with the high-rez audio, personally i'm happy with mp3 files at 256/320bit. i am bidding for the f807 so hopefully i might win later today, hoping it won't go too much over £200 with it being used and having a few scratches.

What a rip off ! I don't see Amazon's previous listing of £200 + ?

......just to add, Sony's U.K. website now says currently out of stock. ( As of yet, it's NEVER been in stock ! ) All the other new Hi Res products with the exception of their headphones ( which I own ) have had their delivery status changed repeatedly.
What's happening with these large companies ? They give out initial release dates, which never materialise !! If their products ultimately fail, then NO WONDER ! Very frustrating !!

It was awhile back, but amazon did list it as £209 and fluctuated between that and about £215ish. It's now jumped to match the third party seller. Hopefully when the units become more available the prices will drop back down.

The sony shops usually have stock for very little time. Mine was to be received today but I had to change the delivery until Thursday. But yeah, I pre-ordered it with a price of 224 pounds... now is almost double.
