I was wondering if you guys think I should wait for the the AKG K267 tiesto headphones coming out in December, apparently the K167 is close the K550 but with more base and the 267 being a lever higher might be even better, so should I wait or play it safe and get the K550s? Do you think there will be much improvement over the 550s?

We wont know the k267s performance until its released so its hard to suggest anything, I can say that the 550s have a good and long track record, however the new akgs look to be pretty sexy. The 267s are going to be 349.99 retail so thats already 50 bucks more then anything else. Also take note that the k551s ( updated k550) is coming too. I feel its worth the wait to see how the 267s perform.

cheers

I also recommend waiting, for the following reasons:

  1. K267 has AKG's 2nd generation adjustable bass tech. Due to this, it could possibly go from very balanced, to "basshead" in clicks. We don't know what they have changed from their last use of this tech, but we can assume it's more advanced.
  2. K167 has been getting good comparisons to the K550 so far - so that's a good sign.
  3. It's better to wait and pick wisely, rather than rush in and regret it.

Heya,

I would wait for the K267.

Reason: removable cable, long & short cable, adjustable sound, probably easier to get a good seal on any head with.

Very best,

Pardon my ignorance, but what was the first generation variable-bass AKG?

That would be the AKG K181 DJ. It had only two settings. Bass, and LOT'SA-BASS. ("Small" Club & "Large" Club)

Since they have improved it to have three settings, I'd feel safe assuming they've also improved the basic functionality and such.

Do the 267/ have those weird silvery dots on the band like the 167s? Those are pretty ugly in my opinion, other I love the look of them.

267 all the way vs the 167s IMO

Man. Great question. The $350 kills me though. It would need to be a significant audio upgrade or the switchports would have to influence the music a lot for me to want to spend an extra $150 on the 267. The 167 are like $190 on amazon.

I sure do want the detachable cable though....but not for $150+ more.

But if I do upgrade to detachable cable in the 267, I lose the corded cable in the 167, which I love.

Probably go with the 167

You can get the K267 for $294 through a price match at Front End Audio. Just ask them to match JRRshop.com's price on them. I copied the below from my post on the 167 thread.

The differences between the AKG K167 and K267 are numerous, and are probably going to end up being worth the extra cost.

  1. Adjustable Bass using AKG's second gen adjustable bass-port tech; First Gen was AKG K181 DJ. Should be even more improved, due to more selections, larger drivers, a bigger overall cup size, and more. Studio, Club, & Stage settings.
  2. All aluminium parts. Other than leather, foam, and some plastic, many parts that were plastic on the 167 are now aluminium on the 267.
  3. Larger divers. They use 50mm (2") drivers rather than the 40mm drivers that were used on the K167. These drivers may be the same as the ones inside the K550, but we don't know.
  4. Detachable cable. Self explanatory.
  5. Heavier (thicker) Padding. The headband now has a thick, stylish, noticeable, (p)leather + foam pad. On the outside, embossed on the (p)leather, it says "AKG", while on the inside it is simple thick padded foam.

All of this without sacrificing the size of the 167, which was already slightly large. (Other than the larger headband) Either way, I'd say wait for the 267, over both the 167 and 550.

So I'm thinking about pre-ordering them... Do you thinks this a good idea? Because if they live up to there expectations they might go out of stock pretty fast, maybe not. Should I preorder them?

This quote points out a lot of the advantages of the 267. Its going to have a lot more put into it. I think its worth the extra for the larger drivers, better padding, and detachable cable.

cheers
