I agree concerning the RE 400 cable, it sucks, because it fails easily after some time. I'm at my second pair of RE 400. First one had to be replace after 6 months because of sound failure in one canal due to broken wire at the spliter cable segment, and now, 12 months later, second set just failed on one canal due to broken wire in connector, were the flexible rubber part is. I'm actually having arguments with Hifiman customer service for replacement

Yeah, I think it's a shame that the re400 was ever so highly regarded.  Bad cables = bad phones.
