VentureCraft new DDC/DAC Go-DAP DD Socket 1 product

That is a good question, since the socket DD1 preamp will be connected to an amp which opamp will have the most control, the one used by the amp or the one used on preamp of the socket DD1?

I could be wrong in my thoughts but I would have considered it to be like the stock AK100 - where the headphone impedance out of the external amp in the chain is the one that matters.

For mtthefirst's issue, I have to admit I've not experienced the 47 ohm headphone out issue but having said that, I never really used the stock Go-DAP X much (if at all) even when I had it for 2 months. Now that it's upgraded to the LME49860, I tend to use it a little more. I don't know if the headphone out impedance had changed 'cos I do know that VentureCraft could reduce it.

I'm kind of two minds at the moment :-

1) send the Go-DAP X back for them to change the headphone out impedance. Note that I don't call it "fix" 'cos they don't see it as an issue yet, so they will see this customising or tailoring to customer requirements.
-- or --
2) return it and get your money back as a slightly more agressive approach to make a point that the headphone out impedance does matter to the consumer.

About the DD Socket 1 though, I only heard the Muses01 but not the Muses02. From what I've read the Muses02 is supposed to provide better bass/treble extension however I want to hear it for myself.

So ideally to hear the sonic characteristic of the DD socket 1 we should pair it with a very neutral sounding amp like O2 otherwise chances are that our amplifiers opamp will alter the sound ?

Thanks Sean for your suggestion.

I really like the portability of X. If I goes to Socket 1, it mean that I need additional Amp and that will make it less portable for me. I just email them and might upgrade to LME49860 at the same time.

The pre-amp opamp actually does make some difference and yes I guess having a neutral amp would be good. Mind you though I've never really tried any amps that's neutral. Is the O2 deemed neutral?

I was doing comparisons between the Muses01 and OPA-627 and there is slight but noticeable difference in terms of smoothness, bass extension, clarity/transparency, etc.

At the Fujiya show, there is a newer OPA-627AP which is a cap as opposed to a chip. I believe this is a prototype since it's so large/high they can't even put the shell cover back on :D. But I'm going to try to have a listen to it later this week.

Once again thanks for another detailed reply. O2 is designed to be neutral and transparent.

Are you planning to do a more in depth review in near future? I really like to read your view before ordering this.

thanks, I have seen that, what confused me is the muses01 and OPA627 are priced the same. From what I searched OPA 627 are cheaper opamp to buy.

I'm lost. do you mean the OpAmp chip itself is cheaper to buy or do you mean that the DD OPA-627 & DD Muses01 prices are the same in one website, but on another website the prices are different?

MUSES01 opamp cost around $50 whereas OPA-627 cost around $20 yest both DAC are priced at $499. I would assume OPA-627 should be little cheaper.

Can I ask which one did you prefer? I have seen that you have said ".."noticeable difference in terms of smoothness, bass extension, clarity/transparency, etc." I am just a little unclear on whether you think the MUSES01 is smoother or the OPA-627?

Does anyone know if this will work with a rockboxed ipod?

My gut feeling is "not". The DD is a dedicated iDevice-only of which I'm guessing somewhere in iOS, there will be code that will speak iAP to the DD. Do you know if rockbox has code in their OS to speak iAP?
