Where we at Vali2 tube spankers?

Cranked her up today on a beautiful, sunny 80 degree day in MIA. Fitted her with a delicious Tung Sol 6SN7GT (mouse ears) and currently spankin' the Sundaras.

Cheers!!

7AF7? What's the diff from 7N7?

Hey Trev,

There was a thread years ago about the 7N7 & 7AF7. Earl (sacd lover) was the tube guru (maybe still is, but don't think he posts anymore), among others. I learned a lot from him. Years ago many of us owned Singlepower amps, that started us all in the adapters and tube journeys, that has carried over to the new amps nowadays. I invested in 7N7 and 7AF7 tubes. I think they sound great.

Cheers

Nice. I got a 7N7 (frankie) for my Vali2 that sounds pretty good. I guess I'm gonna need to look into some 7AF7s now. Same pinout as 7N7?

Yes. Exactly the same. The 7N7s and 7AF7s most get a lot of getter flash, but they are still strong regardless of the flash. I test all the tubes I buy and have always received strong ones.

I have a suggestion for the Vali 2++, that is the 2++ only. I bought a NOS JAN GE 5670W for $20. Late production tube and it's better than the stock tube. I had an old GE 5670 5 star, red stars, delivered today. $20 and it tests strong. It'll probably outlast me. Anyway, OMG, this tube blows the NOS JAN GE 5670W away. Defined deep bass. Lush mids, smooth highs. Dynamic punch and big soundstage. The separation and placement of the instruments is holographic. I'm really thrilled with this tube. Highly recommended for the Vali 2++.
Yes, 100% agree. I’m running a GE 5670 5-star red in my Vali 2++ and it is amazing. It’s smooth and detailed, has killer bass, and a natural, organic delivery.

Ohhhh I liked the GE five star but the RCA Command sounds interesting.
The RCA 5670 Command is really something else. When it’s running in the Vali 2++, you know you’re listening to a tube amp. It has a big, bold delivery, with zero harshness or stridency. I can listen for hours with not even a hint of fatigue. I was very lucky to find a NOS Command for $25. I liked it so much, I bought another NOS Command for $21. I had to be super lucky, because they are hard to find and usually far more expensive.

I have a feeling the more Vali 2++ amps are sold the fewer decent vintage tubes will be available at an affordable price.

Might give a listen to the GE 5670 5-star white later on.

I knew I had some RCA Command, but not for this amp :triportsad:

You should have seen the prices of the 6SN7s 16 years ago, to where they are now. But tube prices do come in waves sometimes and you can find great deals.

The 7AF7 has a slightly lower amplification factor of 17 (versus 20 for the 7N7 / 6SN7). Couldn't really tell a difference in my system....volume levels seems to be the same between the two.

(note the GE was made by Sylvania....I haven't had a stroke or anything )
