Hahaha *wink

Try it out man. U won't regret it. And even if you don't like it, just return it.
Alex @ Uptone is a pleasure to talk to.
The only potential downside is, once u have it in your system, the next thing you will be thinking of is a linear power supply to hook up to the ER.
Lol, already got a proper linear power supply for that! Feeewwww!

I agree but streaming direct out of the Nuc will limit its effectiveness. I’ve tried it in lots of different positions are my set up including out of the Nuc. The Nuc is inherently noisy, so I wouldn’t recomend spending a lot on switches or cables unless you are using a dedicated streamer. You might get some benefit but you’re only getting a fraction of what it can do.

And the winner is, thanks to COVID-19 uncertainty and in no small measure to my spend-another-penny-on-those-useless-boxes-and-I-divorce-you wife...

...teknorob23!!

I live in Dubai at the moment, the return thing with the Uptone switch might not work!
but I am still tempted!

If you want to dip your toe seriously recommend trying a good generic switch like a netgear Gs108 for about £30 with an iFi I power 12v for £50. With your set up you should hear a significant difference just by doing this. Something like the etheregen could be a next step, it is very good and beats the SotM switch which is twice the price, but i would probably look at some sort of dedicated streamer in front of the NUC first. All USB bridge signature (again with an ifi psu) is one of the best players under £1K that i've heard. I use a nuc too, but they are noisy and having switch before them will improve this but it will always add its own mush in after that.

For what its worth i'd reccomend Router > dedicated switch for your nuc and streamer with PSU upgrade > streamer > DAC, with the best cables you have running the last metre between the the switch and streamer. With an amazing DAC like the DAVE you should hear big improvements. :)

Thanks for listing iPower. I trust that you liked it :)

This should go on a tee :) But yeah, returns are respected and easy these days. If possible, audio stuff should be tried at home.

A switch in there gets my vote as well.

EDIT: sorry, wrong post, I misunderstood your post!
Anyhow an iPower is on the way to be used with a standard Netgear switch.

It goes without saying that a couple of months later I ended up ordering an Etherregen AFTER having already spent the money for the Netgear Switch and iFi switching PS... I am really ashamed.
The ER arrived a few hours ago.
The Upgradeitis Acuta struck again.

Lol.. It was just a matter of time.
Let us know how it goes and if you like it/don't like it/can't hear a diff.

I think this is the best I have ever heard out of the Dave.
To be fair though I need to at least A/B against the previous solution. The problem is it would take an eternity to switch from the Etherregen to the Netgear and back.
Any ideas on how to do it?

This is my network:

Put a netgear switch just before the ER.
ER "A" side connected to PC and netgear switch.
ER "B" side to Lumin.
Have an extra lan cable to go from the netgear switch towards the Lumin.

Then you can a/b test just by swapping out the cables into the Lumin, from the ER b side and netgear switch.

Done, and I completely confirm the first impressions. I will post a brief comment in the DAVE thread
Best 600$ spent on my system, unbelievable.

Mine will arrive today after about a month of waiting. Will plug it in this weekend for a listen. Not trying to derail this thread, but wondering what the benefits of upgraded LAN cables might be. At the moment I'm just using the ones provided by my internet provider.

Probably more important than the switch, but I wouldn’t worry too much about what goes on before the switch (ER). The last metre between the switch and streamer will make the biggest difference and i would say it’s definitely worth investing in proportion with the quality of your other components. The more noise you reject the better your streamer will work and sound. :)
