Thanks! I read some reviews and apparently there is a super quiet transport in it, so I'm going to snag it up now to hold off until I can afford an external DAC.

Nice find!

J&R was running the same price on its predecessor, the DVD-S1700 for a while until they were sold out. This is a good deal for those wanting to whet their appetite for hi-rez, or as a backup player for those already all-in. If the transport is especially quiet, that is a bonus.

It has good reviews on Amazon, but one review says no multichannel digital audio. Multichannel audio is analogue only. Since I don't own anything multichannel, that makes no difference to me, but the same review says that some AV receivers don't have multichannel analogue inputs.

I am in the market for a good CD player at the moment as I have tons of CDs and I still keep buying them as opposed to mp3s. This deal is very tempting, but I wonder how would this compare to players that are much more expensive, for example the emotiva ERC-1 or Onkyo DX7555 "audiophile" player.
I do not think I can trust user reviews on Amazon for audio quality...

Yeah, it was released before HDMI 1.2, which is necessary for DSD output over HDMI.

Got mine today (Prime FTW!) and while I've not received my amp or speakers yet, and as such have it going through some crummy Logitech computer speakers, I can say that the transport is indeed ridiculously quiet. I'm also a fan of the orange lights over bright ass white or blue that most companies tend to use.

I've not tried SACD or DVD-A yet, just regular old CD's, but it's functioning nice, definitely a great pickup at $80.

After much thinking I finally ordered one. I'll use this as a transport since it is silent and get a good DAC to go with it. It is not a compromise to go cheap, but the best way to do it since DACs will keep advancing and can be replaced in the future, but a silent transport IS a silent transport, not much room for improvement.

The yamaha player is on sale at many places right now...and is well woth the price, as choka said, the transprot alone makes it a deal, dac's keep improving anyway, unless you must have 5.1 in digital, it's one of the better deals for a universal players ever.
