[UPDATED] Best power conditioner around. [Furutech FLUX-50 NCF Gold]
Sep 5, 2022 at 7:09 AM Post #61 of 75
There was a mild hum coming from the headphone amplifier that I could not eliminate. I narrowed it to the very crappy power in my area and that I live in a 1930 building with a shoddy electrical network.

What I have done and worked for me:
Furutech Flux 50 NCF (rhodium) into Niagara 1200. Amps are plugged into the High current outlets of the Niagara. The hum is gone, and the sound is better. Caveat, this worked in my particular context; others had success with gear and methods that I didn't.

This was a gradual process with a lot of trial and error: Moving the setup around the house, trying different outlets, killing wifi or Bluetooth. Tried iFI power station, DC Blocker, and ground defender in different positions, fancy power cables that improved the sound but did not eliminate the hum, an APC voltage regulator, ... the works.

Damn I bought the (G) version because i thought the other was normal and not Rhodium. If I can change the order shoult i change it to Rhodium?

Be it to owners of ifi products, you specifically or the company itself.

It's all good, no worries! I'd like to ask you why do you think that he should part ways with PowerStation and DC Blocker? Just a friendly question :)

I appreciate the friendly and well-mannered response :)

Been in this for a good number of decades by now, professionally; age makes you grumpy, it's true(!), but it also bestows you with some semblance of wisdom; or so you tell yourself during moments of self-reflection ^^
Stating first that i'm neither a distributor nor an importer of any a company, retired now, nor have i any financial gains by promoting any a brand? I came here to post a personal opinion, as formed throughout my listening experiences and the technical knowledge i've accumulated throughout aforementioned span of time.
Kindly forgive me from expanding it on it further, as this is.. and is not.. your regular forum.
I said and i meant it, not here to step on anyone's toes. And it really would get challenging on a number of fronts.

I will once again state how i appreciate your response in this and politely remind that i merely wished to give a pointer too, originally at least. Had this been a sponsored post, i would not have taken such an initiative.
Respectfully, old fart.
(haven't lost all my marbles yet, just most of them!)

Thanks and I understand. Here at iFi we're relaxed people who know that our customers might want to try other things at some point and we're okay with this. That's just how this hobby is :) When I see posts similar to yours I always wonder about the reason and often ask. Folks here on HF provide feedback with solid points and knowing them (good and bad) is necessary for us as the manufacturer to make our stuff better and better. Also, it's all good if you don't wan't to elaborate and again thanks for your reply :)

Status update of what I am getting so far:

iFi Powerstation
iFi DC Blocker
IFi Elite psu for iFi Diablo
Furutech Flux-50 NCF

I am also going to buy the Furutech etp80es ncf, when I have the money.

I will make a powerstation vs furutech etp80es ncf AB test when each has burnin finishes

I look forward to that! In the meantime, enjoy what you have :)
Thank you very much.

I received all the parts, and I am most excited for my iFi Diablo, because it is getting the iFi Elite psu:joy:...previous was the iPower X, and I must say it sounded(X) like and upgrade. I have another Elite for my Synology NAS. I just love this power supply:heart_eyes:

I am awaiting my headphone amp and Furutech Flux-50 still...

My initial plan was to use the DC Blocker for the headphone amp, I think I still will do that but with the flux-50 also.

Can anybody explain what he means with CONS:?

Think that by switching the reviewer means the ability of the strip to shut off electricity (as in sudden peaks). And power factor correction refers to the differential between power supplied to the device and the power used by it; which to me seems a very tall order for a power strip

Furutech’s new e-TP80S series features audio grade FILTER and MOV circuitry:
Combined EMI Filter and Surge protection
Voltage fluctuations, electrical storms and power spikes can damage sensitive electronics. Furutech’s e-TP80S NCF is fitted with a surge protector for that important layer of defense to protect your system.
During a voltage spike event, the e-TP80S NCF’s new MOV circuitry will automatically cut power to the main circuit board EMI filter line to prevent short circuit and protect your system. In addition, the audio grade MOV circuitry will damp any electrical and mechanical resonance caused by electrical resistance, heat and power flow.
For convenience LEDs indicate normal function of the e-TP80S NCF surge protection function and EMI filters. When the LEDs are “on” you are noise free and surge protected.

Yup, most audiophile power bars are passive products that purposely don't feature any protective means inside.

Any particular difference between the Flux-50 NCF Gold and the Rhodium plated version. I understand only the latter is now available. Do the strong recommendations made by several in this thread also hold true for the Rhodium version?
