Unknown, rare, but fantastic artists you think people should know about

Boduf Songs is the dark brainchild of one Mat Sweet, who records all the songs alone, in his bedroom, at odd hours.  All the songs are released as they are produced by Mat.

Some would label the music Doom or Black Folk, which is a fitting epithet if one must use them.  I can easily imagine some of these songs translated as epic Black Metal works.  The fact that the music is predominantly acoustic is testament to the strength of Mat's song-craft.

Strange psychedelic sounds embellish some of the songs, in a less-is-more kind of way.  This stuff is supremely lo-fi.  I've read that each track is recorded using one mic only.  He often double-tracks his vocals to interesting and spooky effect.  It's all very simple, minimal stuff, but extremely effective imo.

I have little doubt that mat's songs will last me to the end of my days.  they are that good

This crazy woman looks pretty talented, no?

and a little bit scary too

and she's in stellar company.  The Young Gods have been hard at it for over 25 years and barely anyone outside of Europa have heard of them.  They f**ckin rock!  Go see 'em if you're lucky enough.

New album in November people, listen up! "Everybody Knows"

@Rehabitat: Really enjoyed that!  I'll try to track down an album or two.  Is Erika Stucky a staple or a guest in the group?

Great idea for a thread.

Erica is a good friend and an occasional guest of the group.  I believe that, like the group, she is also Swiss.  There is a link to her myspace at the top of the Young Gods' list

Enjoy

To name a few:
Eric Steckel-http://www.myspace.com/ericsteckelband
DoubleDrive-http://www.myspace.com/doubledrivemusic
Supafuzz-http://www.myspace.com/supafuzzrocks
Joe Bonamassa

All are tremendous, I thought that both Supafuzz and Doubledrive would become big. That didn't happen and both bands broke up, and there new bands are nowhere near as good as the originals.

Anybody remember these guys? I'm far too young to have been alive when they released their album, but I was put onto this song by a fellow prog rock/Mellotron enthusiast, and I just fell in love. I've only ever heard this song, and I keep looking for the whole album.
