Controversial VIVA STX
Dangerous wiring/soldering among other engineering flaws

Can you give some details on the engineering flaws?

Can you give some details on the engineering flaws?

General issues pointed out by others (not myself)
  • Shoddy bridge rectifier
  • Power supply suppression cap that is notorious for tendency to fail and not designed for particular application
  • Pin 3 of the XLR sockets are not hooked up to anything (indicating it's not actually functioning as balanced)
  • Ground tabs not used on RCA - soldered directly to the thread
    • solder is almost touching the center pin
Other issues:
  • Hot glue everywhere
  • Abundance of cheap/unreliable parts used
  • Damaged cap missing part of the shrink wrap

That Viva STX looks.....oof.

This is why we advocate, and should continue to advocate, to see the internals of electronics prior to laying out significant sums of money for them.

Thank you for posting these.

Seeing that rat nest makes me cringe when it eventually blows up and needs troubleshooting.

Agree. And I simply can't believe that is honestly the internals. Even worse, I strongly considered the STX.

My goodness! This looks a lot like the Felitsa crap Dr Gilmore was fixing a few months ago. And this retails for what, $15-16k??

Oh I believe the fidelity of the pics 100%. I'm more flabbergasted that the internals are actually that bad.
