Ultrasone - which one is best bang for buck?

HFI680. Less intrusive bass than the 780, but retains all the good characteristics of the 780. This is purely a matter of taste of course. If you like mucho bass, go with the 780. If you like it to be a bit less than mucho (but still very present), the 680 is your best bang for buck Ultrasone.

REB, Is the bass the only thing that's different between the 780 vs 680 ? I have an APS recabled HFI-780 that I love but with the recabling its not practical for portable use. Thinking of picking up the HFI-680 for portable use.

Yea the 780 can be gotten at 161 from northernsound.net . same place where I got mine from. It should be 161 still. But you need to join there club for a one time fee of a dollar to get in on the deal.

Well, that's what I noticed, but my experience with the HFI780 is limited. I wouldn't be able to comment on other differences. I imagine a recabled HFI780 may solve the too prominent (for me at least) bass in the 780. I use my 680s with my portable set-up and I'm very happy with them.

i have heard PRO900 (friend of mine have it)...out of the box still heard harsh to my ears...the bass are more larger in quantity than PL750 but it's almost the same quantity to ALO HFI780 or Ed9, more laidback presentation than PL750, so the midrange feel recess too...bigger impact than PL750, that's what i remember from several minutes testing em'...base on remember though, not head to head or A/B test to PL750, ALO HFI780 or ED9...

i'd say burn-in the PRO900 for 400 s/d 1000hours to get more fairly impression...
