Ultrasone Pro 900 Impressions Thread

i think this is a discussion about bloated bass vs accurate bass?  The more hi-fi headphones get, the more accurate, less bloated bass you get.  Problem is if your listening to rap or electronic, bloated bass sounds pretty good half the time.

...Should I be concerned that my HD598's have more bass than my Pro 900's..? Again, running without amps, but technically speaking the Pro 900's should outperform in the bass dept against the HD598??.. Wierd... I checked the cables, it's properly connected, played around w/ the positioning of the cups but to no avail.

Do you have any DSP settings on?

Yes, the output is analogue, not digital. Im going to try it again later but not sure what else to try. I hesitate to buy an amp bc my thinking is that the bass on this should naturally be better than my hd598. Once (if) I confirm the bass is where it should be I'll look into amps.

You definitely need an amp to drive the Pro 900. I just tried my Pro 900's straight off my iPhone 4S and there's hardly any bass.
It sounds excellent with my E11 amp.
It sounds horrible with my ZO2 amp using HO w/my Clip+! Just giving a heads-up. With my iPhone 4S using the LOD, the volume doesn't get high enough in low gain. In high gain, it's too loud and distorted.

I can wholeheartedly echo that the E11  transforms the Pro 900's from a "meh i expected better" to "holy ****, come listen to this!" And that's with less than 3 hours of use.

I don't want to get into a fight with more serious bassheads, but I think the Pro 900 has no need of bass boost, which is really designed for headphones that need an extra push to deliver bass. All the 900 needs to do that is a good dose of clean, low-impedance power.

i would completely agree. adding bass boost completely distorts the sound. at first i thought it was great, but after listening to a good amp without it i could clearly tell it was artificial and instantly sounded bad to my ear.

After some prolonged use...i agree with the fact that its not necessary to hit the bass boost. There are some instances with certain songs though, that it just brings a grin. Then i switch it off and resume happily listening. I wish i had access to a higher end amp...sadly i don't at this moment.

What they really need is to be driven balanced:)

You will not believe the transformation I promise!
