I believe there isn't any headphone that has more bass QUANTITY than the Pro 900.

Based on the impressions of those who have heard it, the Signature Pro is more balanced sounding so the bass is not like the Pro900 at all.

I've had the Pro 900's and 580's, but just replaced them with new ones...long story, but now they're perfect!!!

Time to repeat the long burn-in process!

Which is why I'm having trouble finding an upgrade.

But since I can squeeze out every last bit of bass with my setup, I'm trying to look for better headphones that can handle more bass w/o distortion.
Maybe that will be an upgrade? LCD-2?

Have you tried modding the drivers of your 580 and Pro900 by uncovering the holes?

No I haven't. What does it do?

*This is odd. I'm listening to my 2nd pair of 580's and 900's, both with less than 30mins of burn-in and my 580's sound noticeably punchier! The 900's have more sub-bass though.
Out of the box, the 580's sound better, but I think it'll be a different story once both are burned-in.

Either:
1. My Clip+ > Fiio E5  isn't enough to drive the 900's
2. The 900's require much more burn-in time to sound great. (But if I can remember, when I first bought my 580's, I felt like they were bassier than my 900's with over 150 hours.
3. It might be the pads. They create less of a seal and I feel like headphones with leather pads would feel punchier. I'm ordering dt250 velour pads for my 580's so I'll see if the velour pads make them feel less punchy.

I'll have to re-evaluate when my ZO2 arrives which is taking forever.

There are 4 holes on the back of the drivers. On the Pro900 two are open and two are covered by a white sticker. By peeling this sticker off to reveal all the holes you allow the driver to move more air and so increase the bass a bit. I don't know how many are covered on the 580, but on the 780 3/4 are covered which may explain why it has less quantity.

The LCD-2 has much more bass quality than the Pro 900. Texture, definition, realism.. but not much in the impact region. IMO, the LCD-2 has the best bass in any headphone. But then, I haven't heard the LCD-3

The LCD-2 can certainly handle loud bass, but just make sure that your system can feed these beasts.

Even though the Pro900 is a basshead can... I was just wondering out of curiosity if covering more of the holes on the 900 would lead to a more ''balanced'' sound? It would be something interesting to try.

I don't think the difference is big enough that closing one will suddenly reduce the bass. It affects the sub-bass more than anything I'd say.

The Kee's mod is a popular way of making the Pro900 more balanced and involves adding extra damping behind the drivers and sticking circular bits of felt at points inside the cup.

hey guys - yesterday I ordered the pro 900s from B&H.
When reading the product description today, it says:
"Each cord has a standard 1/4" stereo plug for compatibility with a variety of devices"
I thought the straight cord was 3.5mm and the coiled was 1/4"?

You're correct. That must be a mistake in the description.

Cool. Thanks for the confirmation. It would suck if I got it and realized I can't use them yet because I'm missing a 1/4 to 3.5 adapter.

Reading this whole thread now (on page 82... still a long way to go!)

Currently using Sennheiser HD25's and they're amazing, but hopefully this will be a nice upgrade for home use! Can't wait to bust out some Infected Mushroom on these.

Actually i dont have enough courage to try it :) for a newbie :) My pro 900 is new, i just got over 50 hours of listening, now the sound
comes more balanced and there was some sibilance in the beginning which was disturbing but now i dont feel it dominantly.
I may try kees mode after getting used to pro 900 a lot, to try new things, but as i said trying it will make guarantee go away i think.

-------

By the way do you use pro 900 with it's original cable or do you people use it with new cables made of quad copper of pure copper etc?
