Ultrasone Pro 900 Impressions Thread

My non-audiophile little brother has noticed the same thing as me-the sibilance has toned town quite a bit with only about 30 hours of burn in. It seems like the 900s improved the most in the first day or two as well. I bought these primarily as my movie/gaming cans since the 900s impressed me so much with them-these continue that pattern but I am definitely liking them quite a bit more with music-they seem much more balanced and natural sounding.

I have extensively heard the lcd2, and he4. I own the pro 2900's and its better imo compared to both. Better tighter bass without being boomy, neutral mids that are very detailed and non metallic. Highs are sparkly without being sibilant. Soundstage is the bomb here. Pair it with a warm tube amp and your in heaven

^ Man, if the 2900 was priced the same as the 900, I would've been all over it by now.

The 2900 just dropped to the 900 price level in Germany. But the 900 was never cheap here :D
You can get both for 350€. I will wait until next week to go sure I find a good deal, but I don't want to import again. I waited like forever last time!

The lowest prices I found for both 900 and 2900 were from eBay.

900: $330-340

2900: $460-500

Aren't Ultrasones? But yea, I have to say the HE-4 is quite bright and sharp.

i see that you currently has the pro 2500, which i also had it for a long time.. the pro 2500 is a very good headphone but their signature is more to the neutral-bright side,, and have a slightly peak in the upper mid that make a bad recording sound harsh.. the pro 2900 has neutral-dark sound and more forgiving of bad rec.

btw i've never heard the he 4,, but it didnt have the S-Logic rite?

i dont know what version of lcd 2 that you hear.. but the lcd 2 rev. 1 didnt impress me very much (maybe a bad source n amp).. the lcd 2 rev 2 that i tried is IMO a better headphone overall than pro 2900,, what i cant stand about the lcd 2 is their weight,, i can only wear them for max of 15 minute and the build is not very good to me for a $1000 headphone.. and i think that im not ready to buy a $1000 headphone yet..

i agree that pro 2900 love (a good) tube..

I'm actually currently using DT990 pads on my Pro 2500 and it's pretty much a perfect fit. The DT880 pads are the same size. The 990 pads are FAR superior to the stock ones IMO. I posted some photos here:

Haha no, but the HE-4 still has a great, coherent soundstage.
But S-Logic really is something special. It definitely does have this "holographic" imaging characteristic to it. Me likey. If I find myself missing low-end and holographic soundstage in the future, I will definitely be picking up the either the Pro 900 or 2900! Or maybe by that time Ultrasone will have new Pro flagships!

yeah, I always found it funny that we, in Europe, have to pay more for products that are made here. I actually drove my iCans to Ultrasone in Bavaria when the headband broke..

As for the pro2900, I'm really enjoying them atm. They have that typical s-logic upfront soundstage that the pro900 also have, but somehow manage to remain more laid back and pleasant, which makes them great for long listening sessions...

Most likely, most pads can fit on the Pro 900.

I suppose yes...
I just wanted a ''go ahead'' so i can order them..
After trying them today in a local store i felt in love with them..
Comparing them to the stock ones, the stock ones are bricks..
I don't know if there is going to be a change to the sound but with that level of comfort i don't care..

I'm curious, just why are products made in Europe more expensive for Europeans versus the North American market?  I guess there's no such thing as a hometown discount?
