Currently I use the ATH-M50 in preparation for winter ear muffs

However, they do not isolate so well.  Particularly, with NYC subways.

I am very interested in the Ultrasone sound.  People have described it as GREAT for trance music.  I have searched for hours and cannot find consistent information on the isolation abilities of Ultrasone.  I am interested in Pro 750 and 900 models, but I would be willing to purchase nearly any model to experience the Ultrasone sound.

What do you think about the Ultrasone isolation abilties?  Are there any mods to make the Ultrasone isolate better?  Currently B&H has a great deal on the DJ1PRO.  How do they isolate?

I currently have a iBasso T3D.  I would be willing to upgrade if the headphone would require or benefit from it.

Thank you for all your advice!

Hi!

As I recall my Ultrasone Proline 650 did not isolate well, but turning up the volume helped quite a bit.

FWIR...
Ultrasones aren't known for blocking external noise all that well. I'm guessing on par with or worse than the M50. I don't recall reading about any mods that would help without mucking up the sound. For better isolation, you might be able to use IEMs with ear warmers.

M50's probably block noise more than most closed cans because they clamp pretty heavily on the head

FWIW I find my Pro900's isolate extremely well.

So,  How do you like your 900s?  Have you done the kees on them?

What did you use and how has the signature changed, since the mod?

I honestly don't remember and I just used some cotton pads that were designed for removing makeup and some cheap felt dots I found.

Interesting.  How about driving the Pro900s.  Without an amp?  With an amp?  What type of amp?

Take this with a grain of salt as I am just going FWIR, but apparently they can be used relatively well without an amp, but the use of an amp controls the flabby bass you get unamped which leads to a much better sound.

Ultrasones like in 750/900 geta a bit more "fun" unamped but it soon gets old.

As for isolation they isolate about on par with the DT 770 Pro if you had that one. Probably less then you would want for subway action.
I would expect the US with leather earpads to isolate better though.

honestly, IEMs are probably the best for use in the subway/bus, in terms of isolation, most closed phones are around the same
