Ultimate Ears UE 900 Discussion and Impressions Thread

I know, it's crazy. I'm doing my best to fight the good fight and get to the bottom of what's going on. I sent them the side by side photo from this forum of the UE 900 and UE 900s, and I also sent them a picture of the UE 900s box that my headphones were packaged in with the blue connector that the cable is attached to clearly circled for them to see. I will keep this thread updated with whatever support they provide. Here was their response to receiving my pictures:

"Thank you for contacting Logitech and for the update. We send these pictures to our product specialist to investigate on this matter. Where did you purchase this? Let us update you within 24 to 48 hours.

Sincerely,

Raymund
Logitech Customer Care"

Thanks for the update. I am looking forward to hear what they have to say as to me it looks like the "new" 900s are actually a 900 in a new package.

I just looked at my 900 and there is a recessed inner ring and the hole is also off center. Next to it the pinhole bore. From what you have described I think you have the 900 in hand and not the 900s.
If I understand correctly the 900s shouldn't have a pinhole bore, but I can't confirm that.

I suspect that you are correct. I didn't have have a pair of UE 900 to compare to my UE 900s, but I'm assuming that they'd look the same.

If I had to guess, what they are selling as the UE 900s is are the UE 900 with all gold plated connectors, new accessories including the maintenance gel that they hope will help with the connection issues, and new packaging. It sounds like we can only really find one documented case of the actual all blue UE 900s in the wild, and it's from that Japanese review video. I'm really curious to see if I ever really get some sort of straight answer that explains what is going on from Logitech.

after lookg at that, mine definitely look like the left ones but all the accessories are from the right ones, with gold plated connectors.

Mine look like the left with all of the accessories from the right too. I'm going to add that link to my customer support document I have going with Logitech so they can see it.

They both have pinhole bores. But the outlets look a little different between the two.

Logitech needs to get this thing right. If people here purchased the 900s for $400 and received the 900 (in a fancy 900s box) which are going for $250-$270 it's a ripoff and it must be explained by Logitech. What concerns me the most is the cluelessness level of their customer service.

I couldn't agree with this more. They appear to have at least escalated my customer service inquiry to have been escalated to a "product specialist" so we'll see what comes of that.

Even after reading about all the headaches with these, I took the plunge and ordered a pair from the Logitech outlet.  They have "dented box" available for $249 and if you google a bit you can find a coupon for an additional $5 off.  I figure the worst case scenario, the 900 has a two year warranty so if there is a problem down the road, the will probably replace them with the 900s.  I have been a TF10 user off and on for years so I'm interested to see how the sound.

So I provided Logitech customer support with link posted yesterday with all the side by side pics. They say they are still looking into it.

"Thank you for contacting Logitech and for the update. Our product specialist is still checking on this. We will let you know within 24 to 48 hours with the best possible resolution to this concern.

Thanks for the update. I am looking forward to their response. The only thing I can think of which doesn't make much sense is that the Asian version is different. Highly unlikely though.

I actually had that same thought last night. While it doesn't make much sense, it would at least explain why were are seeing the differences that we have. It's pretty clear from the box that they are using that packaging for multiple territories given the 4 different languages on it. If you look at their website http://www.ultimateears.com/en-us/900s, the first thing you see is a picture of the headphones with the new all blue body, but if you scroll down and look at the pictures of the models wearing them, they are actually wearing the style like what I received. At best, Logitech have a problem with incorrect packaging and imaging, at worst they have been trying to pass off old UE 900 and UE 900s.

OK, I am totally confused now... I am looking at the link you have  posted and although it says 900s they look identical to my 900 that I am holding as I type...
EDIT: Even if I go to the Tech Specs on the left side, same thing... 900s, 1 yr warranty, the additional gel etc... but the photo looks like the UE 900.

Exactly, Logitech never updated their website and those are the same images from the last year.
