If they were still planning on selling the vi's why wouldn't they just convert their stock of non vi's to vi's? My theory is that they are about to release a new Audiophile model (prbably in the $600-$800 range) and they want to keep this model in pruduction and will do so by continuing to sell it as the "vi" version with the in-line mic.

Haha, I've got that December estimate myself for vi's. It could be an error on Amazon's part, the January ship date looks more reasonable.

there is a post on Amazon right now where a guy called Logitech and they have discontinued these, and as this thread indicates, probably to make room for new model. Anyhow, I ordered a couple and have made arrangements with fellow Canucks to give to them but my domestic manager (read: wife) won't let me put anymore on the credit card as she knows nothing about headphones and thinks $99.99 for "earbuds" is ridiculous (don't get me started)...anyway I am not able to take any more orders for Canadians.

I want these bad enough that I ordered from Amazon even though I'm waiting on confirmation for a pair from logitech. If both end up shipping I figure I'll just end up returning the extras since both logitech and amazon have reasonable return policies.

Ordered at 3:30pm eastern time, and Amazon is stating a December 9th delivery estimate. This was after they put the "in stock on the 19th. Interesting. I did select 2 day shipping which might make a difference. We'll see what happens.
