If I preorder the HM-602, it can be bought for 369$ and has included RE262 (or RE252???) in-ear earphones added for free, which is a 199$ value by itself.
This makes this whole purchase a really worthy deal (savings of 280$ !!!!)

I am not sure how do the components of Little Dot DP_I compare to HM-602  (anyone thoughts on these?)

I also do not know how the software of the Little Dot DP_I will look/handle.

Furthermore It has to drive each of my three headphones WITHOUT an external amp (I hate those... :) ) : Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 ohm, Denon MD5000 and Shure SE530

So this is my dilemma. Which one to choose?

1. Preorder the HM-602 (taking advantage of the fantastic offer)?
2. Wait and order the Little Dot DP_I ?

So what do you headfiers say?
Surely I am not the only one with this dilemma...

What do you suggest?

What are your thoughts?

There's another hifi player call Colorfly pocket hifi which will be the first 24bit/192KHz player.

Colorfly pocket hifi is a customized product for the advanced audio. It supports most of the lossless audio format files and other compressed audio format files playback, Such as WAV,APE,FLAC,MP3,WMA.

It used advanced audio DAC chip(CS4398), The hight performance DAC support sample rates up to 192kHz and accept up to 24bit audio data. Colorfly pocket hifi built a sample rate conversion(SRC) module,It can greatly improve the performance of common audio formats, improve the sound quality.

It chose the TCXO used to reduce the clock jitter, It is be able to match the high-performance desktop audio device. It support SPDIF output, Provide high-performance digital audio output.

Colorfly pocket hifi may be one of the best portable hifi audio products.

They all look like bricks. Hardly portable at all.

It would come down to how good the interface was but with it's SPDIF out and it's ability to read files off an external hard drive (if I have that right) then it could be a viable replacement to a laptop in a digital audio home set up. As a handset in a stationary set up its size would not be too big.

EDIT: The little dot I mean.

yes... but what you suggest is beyond the point of these devices... furthermore you can get for cheaper a laptop with SPDIF OUT than one of these players....

edit: of course you have a very good point there.. these things are huge..
guess we'll hear more of : "is there a hifi in your pocket or are you just happy to see me"

I thought the HM-801 was the first portable player to offer 24 bit playback...?
Also the looks of that thing do not fill me with confidence, at all.

Anyhow back the OP. I would go with the HM-602 for following reasons;
  1. The current deal is a pretty big lure.
  2. The gain switch, which means you don't have to swap amp modules if you want to swap from your IEMs to Headphones.
  3. The added confidence of knowing what the UI is like.
  4. It's cheaper.
  5. 16gb capacity + SDHC card vs SDHC card.
  6. Has the name HiFiMan associated with it which is known around here if you want to sell it.
  7. The warranty is pretty decent.
  8. Second product vs first product of its kind(?) → More polished design?

It depends what your priorities are. Do you want spidif? Do you mind waiting? Do you prefer the metal to the plastic? etc etc.

The only thing you would have to watch with the HM-602 is the NOS DAC and its synergy with your 'phones. This is hard considering no one has heard it.
There are however, some posts saying it would be better suited to a 'phone with sparky, more prominent treble as opposed to softer treble.

Regardless, it's good to see there are finally options! (Or about to be...)

I think 801 is 24bit/96khz not 24bit/192khz.
