Two New Compact MTouch Portable Players – Shanling M0 Pro and M1s
Mar 26, 2023 at 9:32 PM Post #76 of 83
Is there a sheet comparing the two players?

To put it simply:

Do you want the smallest player possible? Get the M0 Pro

Do you want a player with bigger screen for easier navigation, more hardware buttons and better sound? Get M1s.

Does the above mean that as long as I have fewer than 20k in a folder, I should be ok?

I organize everything by folders and sub folders, and overall have more than 20,000 on a 1TB card.

If you using just folder browsing, there is no limit at all.
The 20k file limits only affect local library scan, so if you browse your files through tags

Thank you.

When you say "folder browsing," do you mean using Shanling's own player software and just going into folders, and selecting a song, or any player software, like UAPP, or Foobar, etc. and using a folder option in the software?

Thank you.

Our MTouch players are running our own system with music player, there are no apps as UAPP or Foobar.

In our system you can go directly to folders and play music from there.

Ok, I bought the M0. Sound quality is more than fine.
Shanling’s MTouch line of portable players started back in 2018, with the release of our legendary M0. It was followed by another 3 models and the system was significantly developed over the next few years. Always focusing on offering simpler and cheaper music portable players to music fans all over the World.

Today we are announcing two new additions to our MTouch lineup:

  • M0 Pro, an update of our ultra-portable music player, now with balanced output and Bluetooth 5.

  • M1s, new player packing even more features and sound quality into a compact-sized body

Introducing M0 Pro

Without a doubt, M0 was the most popular product we ever released. It convinced people to upgrade from their Sansa Clips to a proper Hi-Fi player, it was used as a USB Transport for DACs costing 10x its price, it was even glued to the shell of headphones, turning them into a DIY all-in-one rig. And it filled the empty space left after the legendary iPod Nano.

Our new M0 Pro follows closely in its steps, but this time we managed to squeeze in a full balanced audio circuit! With two pieces of ESS ES9219C DAC/AMPs, M0 Pro will be able to provide improved sound quality and increased output power. Making the most portable player sound even better!

To utilize the balanced output, while keeping the overall size of M0 Pro same as its predecessor, we got creative and implemented a brand-new type of 3.5mm connector, combining both single-ended and balanced connections into one. Working perfectly with all your standard single-ended 3.5mm connectors, while allowing for a proper balanced connection through a special 5-pin 3.5mm to 4.4mm adapter (Sold separately).

And we can’t forget the bi-directional Bluetooth, such an important feature of the original. M0 Pro now packs an upgraded Bluetooth 5.0 chip, assuring compatibility with the latest Bluetooth headphones and improving connectivity.

Introducing Shanling M1s

M1 was our first truly compact portable player, released back in 2016. Later came the Q1, with its retro-styled design, so different from our classic players. And the line was topped by the M5s, the best sounding and most feature-rich MTouch player.

Shanling M1s takes the best aspects of these models and combines them into one, making for an ideal mid-sized MTouch portable player.

Updated MTouch system gets all the extra features from the M5s, including Wi-Fi connection and streaming capabilities, it even adapts a similar UI design. But this time powered by a more advanced Ingenic X2000 platform, opening space for future software development.

Audio section also follows in the steps of M5s, opting for a more complex circuit, with a high-performance ESS ES9038Q2M DAC, in-house developed FPGA technology and dedicated headphone amplifiers. Allowing for a high-powered balanced 4.4mm output, alongside the standard 3.5mm.

All of it packed into a Q1-sized body, based around 2.8-inch touch screen, nicely balancing compact size with usability. And featuring our latest body design, inspired by M3X and M8 Android players, with a new addition of front-facing playback buttons.

When all put together, M1s comes as our most featured and best sounding MTouch player, while staying true to its heritage of compact design

International Release: December
Price to be announced at later date.

Ok, I bought the M0 Pro from Amazon. The sound quality is more than fine. The ergonomics moving back and forth from music to settings and so on are very well implemented on such a small screen. But I have two nits. One small, another medium.

The small one is that I have songs that have long titles. As a result I am not able to see anything except the very beginning in the list of songs in a folder (I am a folder person). And so I have to go song by song down the list. Any solutions? Likely just my issue, but maybe?

The slightly bigger one is that I am trying to use it with the more than excellent Noble Mystique TWS. It's capable of all the standard protocols, up to Aptx. And it initially connects like that. But it keeps dropping out. I finally had to go all the way down in the M0 menu to AAC to get a stable connection.

You can swipe left on any text to make it scroll.

Bluetooth antenna on M0 Pro is in its screen, so I would recommend to always make sure it faces away from your body, that way it gives the best signal.

Thanks on the scroll. Will try that for text on song name.

As for the Bluetooth, I'm talking a few feet away from me on the desk. I would think it should connect AptX.
