hey guys. i'm looking for two ear/headphones... one for the gym and one for serious listening for home.

i was thinking about the audio technica SJ5 (home) and the px100 for the gym... how does that sound??

i was also looking at the senn HD 212 for home... how does that compare to the SJ5?

thanks guys!

depending on what he likes... closed/open for home/gym:

closed at home: Sony V6
open at home: Grado-SR60

(semi) closed at gym: JVC marshmallow, Creative EP-630
open at gym: Koss KSC-75, Yuin PK3

... but seriously, if you ask me, normal iBuds do the trick at the gym

SR-60 home
PX-100 gym

It's a shade over $100, but this will allow him to experience two completely different sound signatures and will lead to bigger and better things for him in the future.

The PX100 is not a good gym phone. I sits very lightly on your ears and falls off if you move around a lot, exactly what you do at the gym. If you want open headphones, get the KSC 75. My gym blares loud awful music, so I use IEMs or canal phones. I've not heard the suggested JVC or Creative. I've had the Senn CX 300 which is not good for the gym because the cord microphonics is very bad.

Honestly, for home, I would watch the For Sale thread for a used pair of HD 580s. The Marshmallows are only $20 full price. The HD 580s are good cans that you can grow with.

a koss ksc 75 or creative ep-630 for the gym and grado sr-60 for home use. if you can extend a little, get the alessandro ms-1.

$100 will buy many many KSC-75s =)

but i agree with lmilhan

SR-60s for home and KSC-75s for gym, the sports clip of the KSC-75s if adjusted properly will stay on for any sort of activity you might do at the gym, except maybe swimming.

edit: come to think of it, they probably will stay on if you go swimming, they may not work though.

well...

you could do a lot better...

stretch your budget just a little bit, lets say, 120$ (depending where you would buy the Koss) and you get MS-1 and KSC75 - that's a killer combo!! i'll bet everything you cant get better for that budget!

Cheers!
