I've used 4 different valves off takezo's list, and one of my favorites is a JAN 5R4GA. Solid, defined bass, transparent mids, fluid highs. (Fantastic bang-for-the-buck in my view).

They also made the skinny 6EW7 but they are hard to find.

If the TV7 is calibrated then no, the tube is about shot. A good tube or new one will measure 58 to 60. I have measured many of these and that is the new to good used point on a TV7. A 48 is a poor rating.

I would ask the seller if they have any new 5AR4/GZ34's and what do they measure at. This would tell you where this tube is in relation to a new tube on their TV7 but 48 would be off quite a bit in calibration but that is the only way to know or ask if the TV7 has been calibrated recently.

Well it is a 1955 solid plate, which aren't too common. Hope it sounds great.

Hi: If a tube measures low or border-line,how long will it last and will a tube that's almost done exhibit certain qualities, such as making noise or a low gain and can other parts be ruined by installing a "not so good" tube into a new piece of gear?! Thanks, Huck

this is one of the earlier version of the metal base, the ones without
any holes in the plates...these earlier ones do generally measure
lower than the 57 version, the ones with holes in the plates...

a life test should tell you if the tube has some longevity left in it
or not...do the same test rated at 4.3volts instead of 5.0volts...
if the test figure changes by more than 20% then it's on its last
legs...

A new Sylvania GZ34 measures 51/51 on his tester.

not sell anything that is not up to snuff...Sorry that you feel you paid
too much, but they are very rare...I will await to hear from you before I

I emailed him more questions about the results from the other tester. I am inclined to take it, as that's what eBayer's with 100% feedback do, especially since a new GZ34 tests at 51.

test : 79/78...Yes the tube has some "wear" on it, but it works..I can't

How does that sound?
