Hey guys.
After I changed shipping to tracked shipping for Master this week, two days later I got the shipping notification. And again 3 days later I got my Masters. So it only took them 4 days, tuesday to friday, to get from UK to Germany, not bad.

So here are my first impressions from yesterday:

source:
Samsung Galaxy S5+, Deezer highest quality
music:
Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, Coldplay, Alanis Morisette, some Dance, Acoustic, basically a mixture
listening time:
say around 1h
package content:
baisc stuff incl. a bag, extra package of kombi tips, screwdriver and couple of small screws, pretty complete and satisfying
build quality:
evertyhing seems well built, especially the Masters are rock solid

Well, lets talk about sound quality.
Usually I use my S5, I do not have an external DAC to use, neither do I have an amp. Masters get pretty loud on S5, currently without Viper4A, just Deezer. It`s loud enough for me unamped. With the initial red filters, the Masters sound muffled in not really pleasing in the lower frequencies and harsh, metallic and artificial in the mid to higher frequencies. This didn`t change with the switch to damped gunmetal filters.
Then, I switched to undamped purple filters. This help in the lower frequencies as the sound opens up and Masters do not sound that muffled anymore. This is more to my taste. The mid to higher frequencies still sound metallic and artificial, harsh with hissing sometimes. To bright overall.
The sound stage is really nice horizontally along the x-axis, good vertically and nice along the z-axis, means there is some depth to the sound.
Seperation of instruments and voices is quite nice.

In short:
Stage is nice, seperation is nice, bass is not particularly puncing or dry, but ok. Mids and lows sound cold, metallic and artificial to me, and oftern harsh.

I think soundwise, there is potential, maybe I can pimp the sound to my pleasure with Viper4A, we`ll see. Currently, they are to harsh and bright to listen to them for a long time I guess.

So, now the fit.
Well, the are quite chunky, especially in the z-axis, means in depth. Fit is a problem here. But it would be ok if the Masters weren`t that heavy, way way to heavy for my taste. They are well built, like a tank that is, I`ll give you that, but they are heavier than anything else I had in my hand. And this is a problem. I tried every tip yesterday. With the kombi tips I gave up after several minutes. I couldn`t fit them onto the filters. They only tip that gave me a proper seal were the biggest complies. I`ve never had this with any iem I tried before. Could be a problem for some. Especially since the Masters are so heavy, they easily fall out of the ear. I only tried them on sitting on my couch yesterday, but I can imagine they`d fall out easily when moving a lot. This would defeat their purpose as a mobile gear.

So overall, fit is ok, but problematic for me. The biggest complaint I have is their weight. I don`t know why would anyone make an iem that heavy. It makes no sense to me for a mobile iem.

So, these are my first thoughts after letting the impressions settle over night.

This is just my opinion, fellas. I am happy to discuss.

btw: would be real bad if 50% off and Icarus I codes wouldn`t work anymore as these kept me waiting for my PM6, as an amend from Trinity for the long waiting time.

Cheers

I tried my master on Samsung galaxy s7 and didn't think it sounded that great, realy think they need more juice to make them shine.

Oh ok didn't know what dac was inside s6/s5 or my s7 i use daps, fiio x7 and just picked up opus1 and they sound fab on both . I have read a few other posts as well that say they need juice.
But will more juice also reduce the bright harsh sound? Or is the internal DAC of S5 just so bright sounding I wonder. Does anyone else notice bright, metallic and artificial sounding mids to highs on Master?

I can't comment on the dac in your phone but with my s7 it sounded a bit harsh/not full sounding and i have experienced no harshness or brightness with the master with my daps. I would definitely notice as im a bit treble sensitive, do also think they improved after i had been using them for about 3 days . Think the only way your going to know is plug them in to something with more power, i have read and chatted a little with others that felt they didnt shine until they had more juice ....on my opus 1 they run at just over 100 on high gain ( max is 120 i think???) And on my x7 with am3 about 85 on high gain ( x7 has a lot more power than opus ) using other iems on my daps i did notice that i had to turn the master up a couple of notches.

Hi there! If it helps, I've had the Vyrus and PM4 and I felt they both sounded metallic, harsh and generally not great at first. But after burning in for 50-200 hours, there was a pretty big change in the sound; pretty much the polar opposite of what we're describing at the start. Aside from occasional heat in the treble (to which I'm unusually sensitive) and being a bit incoherent at times with certain kinds of song, the PM4 are astonishingly good. I'm currently A/B testing them with the Noble Katana whilst reviewing a DAP (Shanling M2s), will report more with observations on here later :)

I look forward to it! I have the lovely Shanling M2 silver I got from a year ago!

I currently use vyrus with FiiOx5III i really love the dual amp and dual Asahi Kasei chip implementation. It's a really good listen for extremely long periods of time with no fatigue.

That sounds great! Have you got/ordered the Master or PM6 or anything? I think a DAP that good deserves the best IEM you can get :D

The Fiio X5iii and the Onkyo DP-X1A are the two main DAPs I'm considering between to buy this year.
Of course, the way the market moves so fast, something else might come along that blows them both away by the time I'm ready to buy, but let's see :D

It's interesting to think about which IEM's might have synergy with those players?
I love what you said about the X5iii causing no fatigue, makes it very appealing. Would love to hear how it matches up with PM4 or Master (and Icarus III and PM6 when released lol)

Yeah I have PM6 and Icarus III on preorder. I haven't bugged jake for a long while lol.
:D you never know might be another dap that takes the spot.

There was a really good review by someone here with a cat avatar. He mentioned FiiO X5III is one of only android daps that completely redone audio engine for all 3rd party apps so no nasty resampling. Plus 2 sd slots, free leather case and a glass tempered protector preinstalled so no nasty dust or air bubbles.
Plus FiiO even personally contacted me to upload logs for a problem I had so they could send it to their engineers to fix issues in their next firmware. They takes things pretty serious!!!

Wow nice to see some of you from Asian region got their Master and same goes for my twitter friends from Japan receiving their Master as well.

And I'm still waiting for my tracking info. I'm gonna be so pissed if I received my item without my tracking # first, what a waste of £10.
