TRI earphone impressions - I4 and I3, Starlight, NEW Starsea

For some further impressions, the I3 seems to respond to amping / source quality exceptionally well, like @Dsnuts and @tgx78 have been saying. I have now tried five different sources (in order of quality), Samsung Galaxy s8+ phone, Sennheiser Flex 5000 transmitter/receiver system, Zorloo Ztella MQA USB dongle, Loxjie D10 dac/amp, SMSL M500 dac/amp+JDS Atom amp. The sound quality gets better with each of these. Also between the D10 and M500, as the former has the mobile version ES9038 chip with USB power and the latter has the 9038Pro desktop/pro audio chip and internal PSU. Makes me want to try a high end AK dac as well.

The sound is ok (and good compared to my other iems) even with the phone, but to bring it closer to its ability I would want to use at least the dongle.

I tried experimenting with some different cables (an SPC Nicehck cable and 16-core copper JCAlly cable), but found the stock cable to have the best audio quality for my preferences.
Anyone know if the stock cable itself is available to buy somewhere?

For the tips, I initially used the included black transparent medium size tips pushed halfway up the nozzle. I am now using the same tips in the largest size pushed further up the nozzle. This seems to have the best seal and stability for me. The included white tips I don't really get, as they are flabby and sound far worse for me. Maybe they are for people with ear canals longer than mine.

Good to notice, too, that the horizontal lines represent 3dB steps in the I3 graph and 5dB steps in the Viento graph :)

Depending on genre, yes when volume is high. For example, Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Always’, need -3dBs cut around 3kHz (wide bandwidth) and slight low-shelf 2.5dBs gain below 100Hz to be enjoyable. (BTW sub-bass on the I3 is insanely good!). Turn the compressor ‘on’ if you have the neutron app for little more fun & dynamic sound.

Album: To pimp A Butterfly
Track #12 - Complexion
I feel like I am in a club with above setting :)

Not really / not very. I've done my high volume listening with my SMSL M500 / JDS Atom combination and with these I felt it would depend on the digital noise filter I was using. With four of the filters (out of seven) yes, with the other three not. Also not with MQA material here (filter selection is practically disabled during MQA use). With lower quality sources, boosting volume will naturally amplify the noise/distortion present in the source components of course.

Edit: I'm talking high volume as in live show or club volume here. Not "as loud as your mobile phone can go" high.

Also keep in mind sensitivity to sounds is greatest in this 2-4kHz frequency region and noises in this range are the most hazardous to hearing. Even considering 10-15dBs of pinna gain compensated by IEM designers, its always good to keep 3kHz area in check by using PEQ when listening high volume.

That's why i ask because Im sensitive with 3khz peak, like i want more from other frequencies but the 3khz already on my limit, definitely the Tape isnt for me

From those same shops. The previous batch was probably sold out. I'd think the next one would arrive around that date if the manufacturer's official shop says so.

Anyone willing to share their EQ fine tuning for the i3?

Applied only when playing hip hop, r&b, rock music (add 2dBs below 100hz for rap music)

Classical and jazz, I don’t feel need for EQ.. stock tuning is great as is.

CooL! My Tri is in my country and with hermes last mile. and i guess will arrive monday-tuesday.
Nice! Did you get those already delivered? (Hermes is always a pain in the ass and I always try to avoid them. For me there was not a single delivery that went without any problem. Had even one delivery guy stealing my 55'' TV, which he supposed to deliver lol).
Anyway would be nice to hear how they stand against p1 and Tape in your opinion.
