Well, partly... because they'll have to convince us audio nutters that the tiny DAC inside the headphone can be just as efficient as a 5kg one...

And you think any DAC needs to be 5kg by function? DAC's performance never been measured by efficiency BTW, but using that sort of analogy a cellphone has more computational power today than a room full of mainframe computers a few decades ago .But as I said some people will be happily tether themselves to that past and ignore any technological advancements in order to support their beliefs. Yes audiophilia is a religion to some

Except there's actually been meaningful progress in computing in the past couple decades. No such progress has been made with DACs. Yggdrasil maybe, but I believe that falls into the aforementioned 5kg category.

Lots of your peers would disagree with you on that about the Yggi, but that's rather besides the point. Nobody actually needs a DAC grossly overbuilt by design to perfectly convert digital to analog. Such "need" usually stems from other desires that has nothing to do with the tech behind it.
We already have tiny DACs in the aforementioned cell phones, yes they are integrated in most cases and not the best of what's available , however the issue is not with the chips but what follows: the analog section. This field is still in infancy compared to desktop DACs, give it time it will catch up for both, phones and portable wireless HPs.

Don't get me wrong - I agree with you - but good luck convincing fellow audio freaks that the tiny DAC inside the head set is just fine! :)

Back to the subject at hand, are there any impressions of the sound quality and NC performance of the headphone?

On Sennheiser UK website i could not find any reference to AprX or AAC. I don't trust Amazon specs page as often it had errors.

OOpps my bad. :xf_eek:

Oh I know, a futile effort indeed.

Is this even out yet?

Some reviews up on Amazon already, including a very complementary detailed comparison to the QC35:

Interesting notes - though i always treat early reviews with caution...

I've read somewhere that here in Aust they are released mid-July, but at first only at airports. I have a flight on Monday so will snoop around a bit...

Please may I ask if anyone can find a link on The Senn website where it is detailed "AptX" for the Senn PXC 550? Also does it support AAC?

The new PXC 550 Wireless headphones do support aptX. You may refer to its instruction manual (page 5) on the product web page: http://en-de.sennheiser.com/global-downloads/file/6983/PXC550_IM_EN.pdf

"With aptX® audio coding, you can be assured of crisp, pure and full stereo sound. It allows you to not only hear, but experience and feel the audio as it was intended. Utilizing aptX®, Bluetooth technology can now offer wireless audio quality that is indistinguishable from the highest quality wired connection."

I like the sounds of some of these reviews. There is a bit of a difference of opinion about how good the ANC is compared to Bose but even the ones who give a nod to Bose in that area say the PXC 550 is better in the audio department. They all suggest that the sound is not balanced with a consumer tilt to it but I actually prefer that anyway so see that as a positive. Lets face it this headphone isn't meant to replace the audio enthusiasts home headphones, its meant for on the go use where a consumer oriented signature works best by overcoming any noise that the ANC is not able to remove.

I'm actually curious. Anyone who owns CIEM can compare how it fares against NC e.g QC25 when it comes to removing background noise on the plane?

I have to think the Momentum Wireless (with its great sound and solid bass) influenced the sound of these. The Bose sounds good with NC on, used passively they are hollow and boxy. Sennheiser gets it right in the acoustical design of the unit first, then enhances it with other circuitry. That's how you do it. Bose falls seriously short on that regard.
