Trafomatic Primavera Initial Impressions

Quite a while, 9 months so far. Not as bad as the DNA amps or the original waits for the BHSE, haha.

I'm not sure if this wait is typical though as I think it was a large order in terms of numbers of pieces on the distributors part meaning that it took longer. I'm really not sure ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Oh yeh...I remember the good old days waiting for the BHSE to be built and arrive. I think I waited just over a year !

My EF1000 took total approx. 6 months from ordering the first one to receiving the second one but this was because of Chinese New Year (ordered mine in early Feb 2021, but Chinese New Year added another 2 weeks of waiting time) the original order (built from ordering to building from scratch to arriving at your door takes about 8 to 12 weeks) was badly damaged in transit (crazily travelled around the world passing through a few Custom centres in different countries rather than direct from China to UK) when it arrived at my door 1st week of May 2021, so I had to return the damaged one back to my local Hifiman Dealer and then Hifiman had to make a new one from scratch, so didn't get the replacement unit until end of first week in July 2021 (which luckily this time was delivered direct from China to UK so only two Custom centres it had to pass through to be checked).

So 9 months wait time from a smallish niche hifi company like Trafomatic is not unusual. I guess the wait is well worth it though as the Primavera is is one of the top uber TOTL headphone amps on the current market to date.

Received some good news from my dealer that my Primavera will be ready to be shipped mid of next week. Would probably take 2-3 weeks to arrive here. Can't wait!

Btw, for the 6S45P tube, any recommendation on which NOS to get? I read Sandu's review and there's EH gold pins and Reflektor ones. I also read that it's the equivalent of WE437, which then brings me to Telefunken EC8020. Anyone lucky enough to have tried the EC8020 with their Primavera? It's a super rare item and ridiculously priced, I know that Thomas Mayer loves the EC8020 so it must be very very good. Saw an ad on eBay last month with a fairly "reasonable" price (though it's still very very expensive) but they got snatched pretty quickly.

i ordered a custom color RAL 9002 grey white, and it turns out very very good indeed. Pictures are from Sasa sent to my dealer.

So the quest to get the Telefunken EC8020 ended up in vain. However, I managed to find a matched pair of WE437A (a close enough substitute to 6S45P and EC8020) which are also very very rare. Luckily enough, the seller is residing in my country so I quickly snatched these. As advised by Sasa, I would need to get a WE437A to 6S45P adapter, which I've ordered from Aliexpress. It's gonna be interesting to have these installed when Primavera arrives. Excited!

Can't wait to read what You'll have to say.
One question though: did You ask Sasa whether the EC8020 would even work? There is hardly anything online about them sadly.

I didn't ask him on the EC8020, but since its properties are similar to WE437A, I think it should also work.

Also interested in comparing Susvara with Primavera and Felks Envy. Also consider just selling Susvara and getting either Hifiman ShangriLa Sr or Jr. Which would give the largest most holographic sound stage of these? Assuming cost not a consideration.

Finally after a very long shipping time, Primavera is in the house. Truly truly world class both in sound and build quality. I straightaway use WE437A driver tubes and boy it sounds absolutely fantastic!!

Thanks Bonesy. I no longer have Susvara, but I might get one again if I can find a used pair in great condition. I have another powerful amp coming and I have a feeling Susvara will rock with it.

As for Primavera, it really is one of the best (if not THE best) headphone amp at the moment. Both my Valkyria and CA1a sounds absolutely beautiful, now I'm curious on how CRBN will sound with it. I just need to order some adapter cables first.

Please elaborate, how do you use the Primavera with the CRBN?

I can't see the electrostatic outputs.

Through SRD-7 of course. I just have to order an adapter cable from 3-pin XLR to banana, using the dual 3-pin XLR output from Primavera.
