I have a question actually. Compared to the EX800ST, I assume the Roland has much better treble extension? I am actually not fond of a lot of treble. I prefer IEMs with controlled extension and meaty mids.

Just trying to figure out where the Roland lands on the IEM landscape.

No, the Roland has less treble and less treble extension than EX800ST. I consider the ex800st to be quite rolled off (albeit it's early peaks) but Roland is at another level.

More often than not I find it to be an impedance plot issue with the implementation of the sonion electret tweeter.

Between the outrageously low input impedance of the Roland and its sensitivity to cables (like nothing else I've ever heard), I'm inclined to agree, even if we disagree on the Roland overall

Inability to design a crossover network with an acceptable impedance should be viewed as a failure of design not as a “we need more power” problem .

A Triple Hybrid EST driver is going to need power to sound the way it should, no way around that.

Toranku should at the very least get a competent DAP. His impressions, besides maybe a difference in preferences, are not very useful to me because of the equipment he uses.

I looked at the dtr1 page here - https://penonaudio.com/dethonray-dtr1.html. It says the output power is 1.7vrms per channel. Comapring it to Kann cube - https://us.astellnkern.com/products/kann-cube can give you 12 vrms balanced. If power is indeed the problem with these IEMs, maybe dtr1 does not have enough power? I am a newbie so I could be totally wrong. I am still getting around these power rating and what do they actually mean.

I like to gather information from all sources, people that I agree and disagree with.... it's the only form of true journalism that I know of. Absolutely need to guard against my own preconceptions...
