Still waiting on hyper12. I will write about it when I get to try it. Crystal pearl is the 2BA which I have already covered

What are you thoughts on the new Etymotics ER2 series and how they compare to the ER3 and ER4 series? Thank you kind sir.

I like my ER2XR a fair bit. Will be writing up on it soon. The 2XR deviates a lot from the standard diffuse curve since it adds has extra 5-6dB of bass compared to 4XR, which makes it a little difficult to compare. 2SE I have bought but already sold. My opinion on 2SE is that it is slightly warmer than 3SE/4SR and treble is more laid back

I'm debating if i should go for 2SE or 2XR myself. Inclining towards 2SE, as i believe the sub-bass being much above the mid bass in the XR might mask some bass definition (like it does with my ER4XR). While I wait for your write up on 2XR, can you elaborate on why you decided to sell the 2SE? Does it totally lack sub-bass (as in not reaching at all) ?

I assume with bass definition you are referring to possible midbass bloat?

I sold 2SE (and kept 2XR) simply because 2SE didn't have enough subbass for my preference. 2XR has just enough. 2SE does still reach 20hz ok, but I personally like to hear more subbass so I sold it. In my opinion, 2SE is midforward while 2XR is downslope FR. Both lack that brilliance at the treble.

I'm new to this thread. Just ordered a set of ER4XR which will be delivered end of month and already thinking about Fearless S8 Freedom. This whole hunt for my next IEM began with the thought of upgrading from SE535 to Se846 which led me to comparisons with ER4XR and the the S8

Can any of you offer any perspective? Are the 4XRs really that good. I got a screaming deal on them on Drop.. But now I'm more than a little intrigued with BGVP DM7 and the Fearless S8 Pro / Freedom

Hi @toranku

Have you had a chance to try any of the new TOTL hybrids that recently launched (or will be available soon)? I'm guessing very few people have tried the EE Valkyrie/Wraith yet, but is the Oriolus Percivali or VE Elysium available in Singapore yet?

No, not mid-bass bloat, but rather masking of mid-bass details due to an overly emphasized sub-bass. Somewhat similar to how mid-bass bloat masks mid frequencies.

Thanks for your short A-B there, it helps. I'm still on two minds though. On the one hand, I'm afraid the sub-bass boost might do more harm than good, on the other, total lack of it might mean no regular ear-time, which would be a real shame. Damn this dilemma! i'll give another 2 weeks to settle on one of them.

No experience with Shure IEMs, but from what i read about them, 535 is warm, middy -with lush mids. 846 has a big bass! ER4XR here is super analytical with a very dry-neutral tone, it comes across as bright. 4XR are really, really good in detail extraction. They can probably be called "bad" when it comes to musicality. Just my 2 cents.

I appreciate the input. I'm looking forward to hearing the 4XRs. I do love detail, lots of detail but also love fullness and richness (musicality). I've been pretty happy with my 535s, moreso after changing out the filters. Taking out the OEM filters and swapping in Knowles whites opened them right up to extend the bass back off the mids and extend the highs... They will become my BT gym phones... Anyway I'll give the 4XRS a good listen over a couple of weeks but I think there's a set of Fearless S8s in my future.

No idea with BGVP stuff. With Etys at least you can get an idea of what the DF curve is like. However Etys do lack dynamics (ER2 is no exception) and they can get a bit stale after a while. Personally I find in-ear DF (Ety) to be a little veiled, perhaps due to too little lower treble, I don't know for sure. Re: S8F/P, I think they are quite solid picks. I'm more of an S8P fan due to the bloat in S8F that is apparent upon A/Bing next to each other.

Not yet...I do want to hear the Erlkonig though.

Then I think 2SE would be "safer". Has a seriously tight and satisfying midbass (though not enough in quantity for me :p ). Let me know what you think should you order them. My personal audio circle has been quite thrilled with the ER2XR. Its a bassy ety (bass is neutral for me, lol, but would be already boosted for many).

None of those are available for demo yet in Singapore as far as I know. Perhaps the Percivali only?

S10 Genie
This one has no lower mids. None. Its tuned very...experimental.

ACME8
Mud. Bass bass bass bass bass. It also sounds out of phase. Makes Genie look like a safer tuning. I think its the bassiest monitor I have ever tried.
Hi! Thanks for your impressions! My friend had received his S10 and on initial listen it sounded honky and a lot like you've written. However, he thought that they might've messed up the polarity so he tried reversing one of the connectors. And voila! It sounded gourgeous and nothing like you're describing here. I also listened to it and can vouch that the unit that you've listened also has a polarity problem. I suggest you try reversing the connector to one of the earphones next time.

And how do you vouch that I have heard it reverse polarity? FYI - I knew fearless had problems with getting polarity correct when they were taking their baby steps on HF. Rest assured I have listened to them in the correct polarity, because I have tried reversing it already. If the polarity is reversed for starters, it will sound weird.

No lower mids then? Wow... Sounds like we've listened to completely different IEMs. That's definitely not my experience with them. For what it's worth, here's my measurement of them.
