Crin you're busted, denying only makes things worse. Might as well just confess to Mim to save some sanity left.

Mind blown! toranku and crin are the same person, or robot?
Anyway crin or toranku, same thing anyway, does the ier-m9 all around better than the Fearless especially the S8 Freedom?

i was considering becoming a depressed reviewer who is negative about everything but not in a harsh criticizing kind of way but a sad and insecure kind of waytoranku, crin, nwavguy and Amir are merely 4/5 parts to form Exodia. We need 1 more to win the headfi game. I suspect Mim is the head.
M9 and S8F are really quite different as to their signature and how they present things. M9 is laidback and spacious with a very well balanced signature. S8F takes a different approach since it is V-shaped. Some may find S8F's lower mids to be too behind but it's signature is aggressive and I can see why people enjoy it. It's exciting with a well implemented, defined and controlled bass boost. If your genres dont revolve around a lot of lower mids like mine, it does have its clear strengths. I do think the S8F can be too intense and hot up top, but I feel that it's a good implementation. Really need to insert them as deeply as possible.
edit: Realised I didn't answer your question. I prefer M9 and do think it's all around better. But both are really different and some may find M9 to be way too laidback.

How does the M9 compare to the 4SS?

M9 has a very different kind of presentation. The stage is perceived further away due to the midrange being positioned behind. 4ss does seem to have more snap to its notes but M9 is better with decay. M9 is more extended at the top end and its positional cues are more accurate. 4ss' attack seem to be sharper on the other hand, but images nowhere as accurately as m9. I do think 4ss can get a little congested at times, which M9 never has a problem with no matter how complex the passages thrown at it.
Only thing really holding M9 back from being the absolute best is it's dynamics. If it was more aggressive with the delivery of the bass, adding more snap and control it would certainly be at the very top. This problem is shared to an extent with the 4ss - dynamics are seemingly compromised when I put something like the EX800ST or 334 against it. I'd say though, 4ss does feel a little like 334 but with more treble (and extension) and overall better resolution, speed and imaging.

M9 is at the very top for me, since I listen a lot to classical. Price is the same as Andro in Asia, very good indeed.
I was just thinking about which one to choose between these and happen to see this post. I have listened to the 334 and thought it was really good especially the vocals and imaging but the price is rather high. So i've been trying to find a cheaper alternative. I have narrowed it down to M9, M7, EVR, 4ss and anole V3. What I look for is decent bass, good clarity/imaging, soundstage, air and good vocals. Just wondering have you tried these also?

Cheapest in Japan. Seems like the M9 had a price revision there.
Yes I've tried everything you've mentioned. 334's unique in that sense that it's sort of a one trick pony where it does vocals amazing but everything else pretty average and dated. It's mid forward presentation (with a non fatiguing treble) sets it apart from the iems you've listed. M9 and M7 is a bit distant with the vocals being positioned further back. EVR and ESR can be sharp. Anole V3 probably too bassy if you like the bass levels on 334, and is already mud to me. 4ss comes the closest but more treble and more extension vs 334.
As always, try before you buy.
I see. Are there any other iem's that would suit my preferences apart from the ones mentioned?

Can't think of much alternatives to 334 to be honest. The vocal range and midforwardness is really the highlight of it. Perhaps throw in the NocturnaL Atlantis too, pretty nice vocals. I'd be hesitant to recommend the InEar SD5 and Pears SH3 although they have great mids since they can be strident. Stick to what you can try.
