Tidal Masters & MQA Thread!

So I'm still confused... Why would Tidal go through the trouble of making FLAC Master show, and not show bit rate... When bit rate was shown before? It just seems like more smoke and mirrors.

Was the sample rate shown before? I don't remember ever seeing it on the desktop Tidal app.

I'm seriously thinking of some kind of USB Y-splitter to feed a used cheapie Topping D10 dac just to see the bit/sample rate.

So far I can't find a way to look at it in sound settings because it only shows the default mode and not the current rate being set by apps with exclusive mode on.

I'm really confused now... I forget all about actual end point decoders. I started with a Matrix mini pro, that was MQA decoder. Roon of course does it as well which I also used. The I got a Pontus 2 which does not decode and stopped using Roon.

Now I have an Aurender... I got it used and it had the decoder add on installed already. I did verify that. Then Aurender put out a new version of app... I go to look and I don't have decoder installed anymore. I look to buy, it's $55. Why do that when it's dead?

So I am using Tidal through apps/streamers, not Tidal app. So looking at bit rate on aurender with Tidal... It only shows 16/44 on everything. Qobuz is higher res on everything pretty much.

So even if I don't have stupid MQA which I don't actually care about... Why the heck does nothing show FLAC? I have all my apps updated and switched to "max" in aurender app as directed after tidal update.

What exactly doesn't work with Tidal connect? I'm shopping for streamers to get isolation from PC USB. So I'm a little concerned you're saying Tidal connect doesn't work?
Tidal's new Flac (max) offering.

When using tidal connect through ifi zen stream you still get the mqa version instead of the Flac one.

So you can't stream hi res files if you want Flac...only if you switch to hifi tier you can get Flac versions.

Not all streamers use tidal connect though.

Even on the lower tier, just because a DAC doesn’t show MQA doesn’t mean it isn’t an MQA song file.

I have a few devices that will show MQA even on the lower tier while others show an indicator that is appropriate for 16/44.1.

I have Hi-Fi Plus. Have from the start. I logged out/in. I can now see some content in 24 bit. But the best that shows is 24/48, even if I know it's higher in qobuz. That is on streamer that doesn't use tidal connect. The only time I see FLAC is when I am in tidal app on phone or desktop. Phone usually says low.

My guess is that if tidal offers an album on mqa then you get mqa even with the hifi tier.

Now they are changing their database to Flac only so I guess it time we will have no mqa versions.

I personally wouldn't have a problem if they weren't forcing mqa in such a way.

If there would be a Flac and an mqa version of the album I would sometimes pick mqa just to compare it with the Flac version.

But not having all high res only in mqa and offer mqa even if I want to stream the Flac version....thats not what I want to sigh for.

This seems to work fine on my Bluesound boxes.
