IMHO Tidal is a very good idea but very poorly executed.

Not to discount your views, but I have never heard anybody else have those issues. Certainly my experience with Tidal has been almost without issue. Sorry to hear you had problems.

Neither did I when I first subscribed. I thought the service was nice and if I used Tidal for only streaming I would be fine but I use offline a lot and that was a big deal breaker for me.

Got to say, I use offline WAY more than streaming and I've never had a problem like that, nor have I heard about anybody else. Are you completely sure there wasn't anything else with your environment that might be the issue? Not saying that it is so, but always good to eliminate all the possibilities.

I've had the red error pop up when downloading offline tracks but that's when I'm at work using the crappy public wifi (I work at a corporation), which is why I prefer offline at work over streaming because it takes a while for a track to load up if not cached.

Even when the pop up error occurs, the tracks eventually download automatically. No action required. Perhaps if you get those errors, it could be a device or connection issue, or both. Or Tidal.

However, I don't find it to be a problem as it resolves itself and hardly ever happens.

Hi there,

still waiting for a kind reply regarding an EQ for Tidal. Using my DAC I can't use any EQ app as it crashes on my phone.

Other question is, can you use Tidal HiFi subscription internationally without restrictions?

Thanks!

I just had a look on Google and there seems to be a couple of third party apps that will run on a computer that will support Tidal.

I just use Tidal on my phone. Nor the built-in EQ or a third party work.
I have a Xperia Z5 Premium + MDR-1ADAC.

I only use my phone. AFAIK there is no EQ third party app for running Tidal on a phone.
It would be nice to be wrong!
I used Spotify for a couple of years and there was an excellent third party app. SpotEQ.

My solution is to use the CEntrance DAC/Amp, which has bass and treble EQ switches.

Thanks! Well all the third party EQ I have tried do not work when I have my headphones connected thru USB (the EQ apps just crash). If I connect headphones using the 3.5 jack they work fine.

I am really not a big fan of having an external portable DAC "glued" to my phone, that was one of the reasons to go for the MDR-1ADAC. The other reason was the cost ;)

So why not use the 3.5 jack then?

Good question! Well by using the USB connection to the headphones I get louder and sharper sound by using the DAC amplifier. So my preferred option is the USB and I only use the 3.5 jack when the DAC runs out of battery.

LOL "glued". I nail mine together.

A well mastered 320kbs track can sound very good, whereas a poor quality high-res track will sound bad no matter how high the bit-rate is. Nothing Tidal can do about, except choose a well mastered version of the album, if one exists.

This is exactly what I am concerned about, how often are they getting well mastered versions? How many label/distributors are giving them CD quality source material? Is it possible that some of their original sources are low bitrate MP3 that they are then upsampling and calling it lossless hifi?

How do any of us know where they source the music? I see no reason why the VAST majority of their collection would not be high quality masters direct from studios and labels. It seems like wild speculation to think otherwise. As for the lossy versions for non-HiFi accounts, they would make copies from masters themselves, or again, get high quality conversions from studios/labels. I even wonder if they can dynamically encode on the fly?
