This is very interesting. Subscribed. I wonder how this duo would pair with DT990 ~ 600Ω from beyerdynamic. Jason , can you comment on this? If it turns out great, I wouldn't mind upgrading to this at all!

destroysall.

either in this or the other thread, someone emailed Jason and he said it did great and was tested with both the 600 ohm DT880 and 990.

I'd personally feel it's probably not the most synergistic combo, assuming the Magni is on the neutral-ish side. The DT990 really loves extra warmth. DAT TREBLE. Power-wise, I didn't find any real benefit from going from the E9's 80mw power into the 600ohm DT990 vs the 700MW of power in my SA-31 at 600ohm. It was mostly the SA-31's warmth that made the 990/600 sound better off it than the E9, which isn't as warm. The Magni at 130mw at 600ohm should have plenty of power for the DT990/600, for sure. Sound signature of the Magni would be the deciding factor.

If these had come out a few months ago, I might be listening to them instead of my new MusicStreamer II+/Crack combo... They sound like great ideas, but I'm thinking I'll go for an O2 amp at work and eventually try some more expensive Schiit as an extra option for my home setup.

How's the synergy of the Modi with the Asgard may I ask, or is the Bifrost still a better choice? May pick up one of these for some nice changes. My current DAC is fantastic, but a Schiit stack will look so sexy on my desk :k701smile:

Very good guess Mad Lust Envy!

Schiit has told me the Magni to be Neutral and Uncolored. It will sound different than the Schiit Lyr. (very noticeable)
Tons of power for a tiny discrete amp.

No one knows fully of the synergy between the asgard & modi because we haven't received our units yet. (came out yesterday)
The Asgard is a Single Sided Class A,no overall feedback, non inverting, single voltage gain stage and is also discrete FET which should be better than the Magni.
The Bifrost most likely will be better than the modi as well.
Modi & Magni is a great benefactor because of their compact design (stack), runs cool, and great aesthetics.

I currently own the FiiO E10 with the HiFiMAN EF2A and the pair sound really nice with the DT990. If this new Schiit combo can do better, I will be sure to jump on to it.

These are ONLY designed for direct sale--no margin in them for resellers.

Well Jason it is ingenious. Must say I already pulled the trigger on the modi and if the price was just $50 dollars more I would still be sitting here considering other DAC options. For $99 it is almost like a reflex response to press the "buy now" button on your site. Nice job.

Isn't the E10 on the warm side? And isn't the EF2A a tube amp? That should already be adding some warmth, which would definitely help the 990s. Not sure the Modi/Magni would be better in that case. Not that I think the 990's would sound bad off it, just saying it may not have the best synergy. The 990s are a finicky headphone in terms of synergy, as that treble can make or break a pairing. I actually find the 250ohm 990s more forgiving of coloration than the 600ohm which has more treble clarity, due to less bass (the 250ohm has the most bass, so treble isn't as glaringly obvious, IMHO).

I find the E10 as an amp to be warm sounding. I am using the DAC function only right now and to my ears it performs very well (which I look forward to comparing to the modi  )

Hm, Schiit vs. O2/ODAC, this should be interesting.

The Magni is a high output with less than 0.1 ohm output impedance? Would these be a good for something like the D2000/D5000/D7000?

Any reason the Modi wouldn't work in the UK?
I know the Magni doesn't. so I'm fearful nor will Modi for some reason,

Wonder what kind of budget ($150-200) IEM's would perform best with this stack? Guess it would be rather hard to recommend at this point but anyone want to take a stab at it?
Bought the Modi/Magni combo for my brother for Christmas. Now would like to get him some IEMs that would benifit from this combo in that price range. Thanks guys!
