I think I need to get custom metal case, to fit bigger battery for ak4499, eats so much power, and more caps space.
Remove accu from DSDs, install riser for I2S and longer distance screws to got extra 5mm.
Buy same sized as DSD DIY chassis. Install old accu and buy 3 smaller size without modification or 3 same size and drill all screw ports. To insert internal wiring to new case need to drill hole too.
I have 2 DSDs boxes together and it's really acceptable size :)

I see acrylic cases made in Philippines, cost USD 20-30 can quote here

could you post an image of your board?
I know this the custom but never used their service. But I want an all metal case with cooling. 😂. I also need to do some measurements as I need larger battery to power the ak4499 harder. And EMFs has been very annoying, so I might even want to put a load of copper around it. Despite that, I have no ability to mod it myself.

Here is firmware 0.5d. I got a 0.5d file from NiceHKC with a chinese name, I have renamed it to sapp.bin. And I have used flash.bin that was in an other firmware, 0.5c, but it's an older file. My ES9038 player came back to life with these files.

But my problem is still there, one song plays, next one stops, next one plays, next one stops, etcetera. I have inspected the board but I don't see anything wrong. Anyway I will send it back tomorrow.

For DUAL AK4497/AK4499: DO NOT UPGRADE TO THIS VERSION, no output from any file tested (mp3,flac,dsd,wav....), reverting to 0.5c

flash.bin should be the same as the version, can not be mixed!!

Well it worked for my ES9038 player. I don't know, I asked multiple times at NiceHKC to provide 2 files as a combined package, and they just don't understand. This is all I got.

When I install 0.5c on my player there is no sound, with 0.5d sound is back.

That's because on flash.bin is stored the i2c addresses for each DAC AK4499/D4497/CS as example 0.5c on 0.5d should be stored the new ones however it's weird that they only send you the sapp.bin only and not the full package.

Strange indeed, I send them the text with the flash instructions and they do have contact with Zishan, and my question was pretty clear (to me).

But I have something else to keep me busy, my Muses 01, 02 and 8920 just arrived, the real deal from Mouser. Too bad I have to send the DSDs with ES9038 back to AE, that was part of my plan.

@raabje
Muses 01 and 02 are too expensive for what I want to pay for opamps.
I have genuine 8820 and 8920, I like them but soundwise my favorites have being other cheaper opamps.
When you have the time to test them, let us know how the genuine Muses 01,02 sound and compare to others.

Remember that zishan plays files in the order they are saved to the card.
But I guess you tried everything and it "played" the right order with the wrong FW.
From your description, the ES9038 file playing problem looks like a FW bug.

Yes with 0.5c there was no sound and no problem with the tracks. With 0.5d the next song won't start, time is stuck at 00.00. The FET/Spectogram stops too.

And Muses too expensive, I agree, they are too expensive, and Mouser even makes it extra expensive. But i am a little OCD, I want to to experience it by myself.

I will report back. My initial thoughts where with the Z1 and Muses 02, compared to my OEM/fake 8920, that the sound is a bit more wooly or bassy. And my DSD with CS4198 with Muses 01 sounds more lively, also compared to my OEM/fake 8920.

But that could be my imagination or a mind trick because I have read a lot about the Muses before I bought them. Will report later more, also I will change Muses 01 to the Z1, and Muses 02 to the DSD. And I have a Burson V5-i coming from Burson Audio for the Z1, but that one is somewhere stuck at Hong Kong airport. Also too expensive, but hey, you only live once...
