What about clarity and trebleSo I bought the Zishan DSDs Pro Version. I have to say, it is quite warm, in terms of sound. And it gets really hot after 5 mins, too hot to even touch it.

The Zishan dsd's corner
It maintains clarity, you get to hear some sounds in the background that you haven't heard before with cheaper DACs. Not so clinical, it goes well with (Harsh Music). Balanced output is really weak, the balanced output appears to have more details. However, the 3.5mm produces more dynamics. What about clarity and treble
I think the balanced connected to a good deldicated amp will be fabulous. It maintains clarity, you get to hear some sounds in the background that you haven't heard before with cheaper DACs. Would be nice to see zishan release some single 4493 and/or 4497 with usb-c now.
I don't even need to ask how battery life and heat is like on the dual 4497 or single ak4499 to know it's bad...

Link is dead, can someone reupload?
I get horrible screen flickering and constant crashes with 0.4k, would like to try before reverting to 0.4i that was "almost" stable. Pfff.

It looks like that Zishan releases the new DSD FW in that baidu drive.
The baidu link is the same link from before.
I just opened it today and 0.4M was already inside.
Thanks for hosting the files.

0.4M update log:
1. Modify 0.4L bug that some computers do not recognize usb
2. Increase the playback interface, long press the up button to increase the volume, long press the button to decrease the volume
and many more
What else needs to be done:
1. Long text scrolling in the playback interface and many more

For reference, on my 4497 dsd :
0.4i ok but very long boot time (caching files... What is there to cache I don't understand it's using folder mode) above a certain number of files (around 128G but has to do with number of files not total size on SD) and regular crashes switching from flac to dsd and vice versa
0.4l screen flicker and instant crashes loading files
0.4m seems similar to 0.4i I'll see if it's more stable. Very long boot time over 128G too.
0.5b instant boot but extremely low volume
Let's hope there's a 0.5c coming that fixes the volume.
Ghetto device, ghetto firmwares, and still a gorgeous sound.

Following up on this, I've seen more reviews of the AK4499 having bad heat and battery life issues, but the dual AK4497 seems to be mostly fine so ordered it, as I think my DSD pro is the very last piece of equipment out of like 20 devices I use from phones to tablet to 18650 charger that is still micro usb and I'm ditching the cables.
And the fiio m3 pro while excellent is not quite as good sound wise.
Will share my thoughts on it once it's there.

What is the reason for the 3.55mm output on the bottom of the unit, vs the line-out on the top of the unit?

I've read the 2.5mm balanced output on the AK4499 version is not meant for headphones but for amps, I hope it's a regular headphones output on the dual AK4497.

The Dual AK4497 has the same circuit as the Single AK4497 - a pair of OP275 op-amps doing the 4 channels (L+, L-, R+, R-) of Low Pass Filtering, driving the input of the socketed op-amp, and driving the 2.5mm TRRS Balanced Output jack (through 22Ω resistors).
.
Since the output of the AK4499 is different, their Low Pass Filter circuit design apparently doesn't have the same Current output, which means it can't correctly drive Headphones.
